Straight question.
If we had our disagreements in person I wouldn't consider it anywhere near sever enough for me to even wish any bad will toward you, so it's no difference here.

I hadn't even given anything that minor a second thought.

It takes a lot of insults and other shit to get me to wish bad apron anyone, and I think anyone I do wish bad upon is safe because they don't seem to ride any further than a few hundred K's from home...

So basically I said the violence thing to sound tough.

And thats the thing that has always confused me with the way some have come on here and acted like complete dicks and made enemies, if you are a part of the ADV community you travel, and meet other members so why deliberately piss people off unless you don't really travel (or plan on it)and, in that case, belong here.

But thats just me I supose...

You're pretty much right about most of it Trev. Since I came in here, I've always told people that I haven't met anyone in this forum that I wouldn't ride with, or have a beer with, or invite into my home.
Quite a few blokes in here have been here, sight unseen, and they'd be welcome back here any time. A few people off here have made use of the workshop to fettle bikes, or just for a meal and a bed.

Just lately though, with some of the crap that's been floating around in here, that's changed a bit. The thing I find strange though, and there may be no connection, is that the blokes you meet on rallies, or rides like the Pooncarie trip, don't seem to feature too highly in the adventure typist ranks. Sooner or later, if you do go on rides or rallies, you're going to meet up with the blokes you talk to in the forum, so it might not be such a good idea to make a dick of yourself in here
Maybe the "Aussie topic Thread" is worth a try, I don't know. Bit of a ballsy decision to start something that's going to be a lose/lose decision; damned if you do and damned if you don't. The mouthy minority are still going to keep whinging no matter what happens.
I can't go on about how good "the old days" were as I haven't been here so long myself, but I do notice the a lot of the blokes that were here when I came in don't seem to post much any more, and that is a loss to the forum.

As many would know I used to organize open invitation rides here. I doubt I will do that anymore. In fact there are now people on this forum who I have gone out of my way NOT to meet. Anything I say on here is the same thing as I would say to your face. I have met many people who post here face to face. Anything said to me here will be taken by me as if it was said to my face. I am not a saint. There are some things that you can say to me that will result in a smack in the mouth. The whole idea that people have "internet personans" is IMHO bull shit. If anything peoples true colors come out.

It is true. I am an opinionated wanker in real life.

Posting threats of violence of any kind on ADVRider is viewed in the same way as posting family insults or porn.. Please be aware that bannings can and will be handed out if these continue.. This is not negotiable..

i really really really wish there was something to reply to in this thread (aside from nev's response to rod's observations that is) but there aint.

it is most interesting that this thread is dominated by the same crowd that keeps saying over and over that "this is not what we need" and thus perpetuating the very 'problem'. it's boring frankly.

i put it to you pure and simpe we do not have a problem, we just perceive we have a problem.

ffs.
you reckon you are leaders? you reckon you are some sort of backbone of this forum?

lead by example.
embrace change.
and growth.
and make something useful of it instead of expecting it to be made useful for you.
if you cannot make a semi-intelligent observation on a topic then stop tapping and turn your brain on.

fwiw i've yet to meet anybody in this forum i would not ride with.

the constituency of this forum is not some invite only club, the key criteria for membership here is to simply ask to join.

everybody has a story to tell.

nobody has lived my life and is therefore not going to bore me nor offend me cause i bloody well embrace people for what they are not what i want/expect them to be.

whether or not people care to ride with me is entirely up to them, i will not lose sleep over their choice.

i do not seek to mould the world into my own likeness.

need i keep on? can you remove the log from your own eyes before reaching for the splinter in someone else's?

I disagree with your first sentence. There is, and I not only reply to it, but applaud it. (well, most of it)
As to to the "semi-inteligent observation" bit, well I can only do me fuckin best.

that's because this forum is about people not about riding, riding just happens to be what we do and is the slender commn link. when are you 'purists' ever going to get that concept drilled into your heads

sorry, ben, but that observation about finding people you are not interested in riding with is simply adding nitro to the fire. perhaps not one of your smarter observations...

rod's observation (whether right or wrong) is so timely, somebody's thrown a firecracker on the decks and it's been simply laughable to watch how the firecracker is managed.

correct me if i am wrong but rod ran out the time honoured dig at a bike brand line and for that has near been binned.

so.... when did we lose our sense of humour and why

Haven`t lost my sense of humour at all Mouse but thanks for your concern..

I viewed Rods comments as extremely poor taste, as did many others, and replied as such.. Nothing much comical about them but maybe we just have differing senses of humour..

to be sure rod dug himself a wee bit of a hole afterwards but i simply read his initial post as another bmw/ktm gybe.

his initial post made no mention of rider nor ability nor any other cause apart from the fact it was a suzuki.

and for that we jump all over him

since when did we become so politically correct? and why?

ah yes, the real message i wanted to impart to you is the observation that to attempt to please all of the people all of the time... i'm sure you know the rest of the saying

Rod has apologised no need to pick at scabs or dig around and make things bleed.

and so the cone of silence descends?

i wasn't particularly passing coment on anything about rod, i was far more curious about the response of the moderators.

how on earth can you ask what is wrong in one breath then on the exhalation duck for cover...
