Haven't been local for 34 years . . . . . but will never lose my love for the area. The best weather of the year starts this week. I miss it.

I love the pics of the 'Daks! I grew up in upstate NY. My cousin lives in Lake Placid, we had a cabin on Saranac lake, have many more relatives scattered all over the area. UBU!!! Thanks for the write up!

P.S. Pirates on snowmobiles...

Yep, the last time I had anything dripping antifreeze it resulted in a new engine.

Mmm, crisp mornings, cool afternoons and a bit of color on the trees makes for some nice riding

Ah, that's hitting close to home.
I grew up about 30 miles from Pottsville and went to college about 20 miles from Lake Placid.
Umm Yuengling. No porter?

My heart sank to my knees as I waited to board the ferry. I kept imagining the worst, but hoping that it was something easy to fix.

A guy on a red KLR pulled up behind me to wait for the ferry. His name was Dave and he was from Maryland. His bike was loaded, he was on a ride to Lubec, ME, the easterly most point in the US, with a stopover to visit his brother on the way. He seemed like a nice guy. He went to college at UMaine Orono then moved to Maryland to be closer to his brother and nephews....but then his brother moved to Portland, ME for work so they don't see each other as much. Funny how life has a way of throwing curve balls sometimes. Dave hopes to move back to Maine at some point.

The ferry docked and the captain gave us the signal to board. Bella started right up. No check engine light. Temperature gauge one bar above normal. Antifreeze started dripping again

I parked and let the bike cool down. Chromer found the bag of tools and we both took a look. The radiator hose had partly pulled off the engine, all we had to do was slide it back and tighten the clamp Whew, I was relieved! I think BMW made this hose as short as they possibly could. Every time the engine moves a bit in relation to the radiator, it pulls on the hose. A few bumps too many and this is what happens . We fired it up and the leak was fixed! I kept an eye on the gauge to see if it needed more coolant.

30 minutes later we docked in Charlotte, VT and began the next leg of the journey.

I thought about it

The smaller Yuengling cans were easier to fit in the panniers, plus there's actually a decent selection of porters up this way, but not many good lagers.

You had the best of both neighborhoods growing up

Thanks for stopping by
