I just stumbled on this thread tonight, and I can't believe what I'm seeing. Amazing build. I love it! I was sitting here looking at the page count thinking, Cool, I've got 9 pages left, etc. I only wish I could do this someday. Keep it coming.

No time like the present to put the chains on.

Done.

The front one doesn't have any adjustment. I had a chain in place when I welded the motor mounts in place. I actually had to go up a gear on the motor to make it work without a half link. I can't remember the final gear ratio but I think it's set for a 150mph top speed. Actually.... that's not funny because it may be true.

I may have "engineered" this a little too close. I may have to SHIM it.

I think the only thing that will interfere will be the master link. Oh, and why wouldn't they make the master link on a chrome chain CHROME? Disappointed.

I also got my bitchen new petcocks.....

$100 more on some fancy plumbing parts and the oil and fuel lines will be done. I'll take care of that this week.

I saw your post and you're well on your way. Once the design is done the building is easy. If I can help in any way just let me know.

Holy shit! Beautiful stuff. I just came across this thread. Amazing work! If only "someone" hadn't been smoking pot in shop class behind the canvas welder shroud under the exhaust fan.

Sorry, noob question...do the pedals lock into place while riding?

What is the function of them in your build? I assume they 'were' to start the original Merkin bike.

Thanks for the education...

Jim

Hmm... I NEW there was a reason I put up the clear rubber welding curtains in my classroom...

One other question on the 'Merk, is it going to be street legal? Watcha doin for lights and a title? Can you title home built bikes in Minnesota? That was the main reason I wanted to use the bottom half the the XL frame, cause it already has a title.

Yeah, the pedals won't be functional. I tried but the right side of the motor is too wide. They're just foot pegs now.

You can license a home built in MN but I haven't decided what I'm doing yet. I do have the XT title and a set of stamps wink, wink. For lights, I'm still looking but I plan on taking one of those old carbide lamps and putting in some sort of modern 12v light hidden inside.
