I took these last weeekend while I was out and about.
This one is in East-Hawkesbury, Ontario ![]() ![]() This one is in L'Orignal, ON, but I"m not sure if it was a school house, looks like it's been converted to storage, the sign over the door was unreadable. With the two doors maybe it was boys/girls on each side.

That first one is highly unusual with the entrance like that. And yes, I'd say that second was a school, probably a two room school considering how long the building is. Great finds, thanks for posting! BTW, a second look at the roof of the second school shows the trademark plumbing exhaust configuration, those H shaped things. I've only ever seen that on a school.

Been following this thread closely as I grew up next door to a one room school house in Ontario. It's located between Maxville and Moose Creek on Rural Route #9 in a small place called Sandringham. The school house is still there and is used as a Social Club to this day. To get there get off the 417 onto the 138 heading towards Cornwall. Approx 1.5 miles up the 138 turn left onto RR#9 at Tayside Corner.

Caledon Schoolhouse
Close to home and situated on the northeast corner of The Grange Sideroad and Kennedy Road in Caledon
History info purloined form a Caledon Website... 16419 Kennedy Road* (Silver Creek Schoolhouse) Located at the north-east corner of the Grange Sideroad and Kennedy Road, the brick schoolhouse was constructed in 1884. It is considered one of the best preserved and architecturally interesting schoolhouses in Caledon. The original log schoolhouse on the property was built c.1850. The current building was designed more ornately than most schoolhouses with semicircular window heads, brick buttresses, and brick detailing more characteristic of church architecture. The schoolhouse was in use until 1963, and is now maintained as a private residence. ![]()

There's one very near to you Ms Dresda. Just outside of Merrickville, on Richardson Rd just past Burchill Rd. 1890's if memory serves. Happy hunting :)

Found a few more yesterday and today:
Poland. And a few more today, on a brisk Remembrance Day ride. Just outside of Westport on the road to Bedford Mills. Lyndhurst. Battersea Road. Delta.

Great thread. I see these places all the time, so now I should stop and take some photos.

I've found a site that has scanned images of old topographic maps as well as other interesting maps. Its an awesome resource for map geeks, history buffs and those of us hunting old schools:

First finds for the 2011 season!
This one is on the Opeongo Road, in Renfrew County. The date says 1858. This one is in Burnstown. 1889, this one. And the third. Not sure what year it said; we were too tired and cold to check...
