One room school house
Emmbeedee, we rode the same roads only we missed the turn off to Schutt and continued to Palmer Rapids and then Combermere before heading South. Don't know what the bikes were that we passed except to say they were DS ie. Dual Sport. Yup. we got knocked around by gusts every time we'd clear the tree line. If you ever venture over this way (Haliburton Highlands) on one of your ventures we have a bunkie we'd be glad to make available to you.

One room school house
The white school house was the forerunner of the brick one, now a community centre just a few km's away in Lochlin, ON.

Some more schools we found today, mostly in Quebec.
Number 1: On Sand Bay road, south of Shawville. Number 2, in Stark's Corners. Number 3 also in Stark's Corners. This last one we found in Sand Point Ontario sure looks like a school, but we'll do a bit of research before declaring it one. The side windows were boarded up. It's right across the road from this Loyal Orange Lodge, and it doesn't look like it was a church, so the odds are good it could be a school.

One Room School House
Not unlike the Bradshaw School this one is in Blairhampton (ON). I knew a previous owner and it was my understanding that it was a school but the upper windows are leaded clear glass which suggests it was a church. However, his wife had a stained glass studio so it could very well have been a school and the leaded glass added by her. Just to confuse the issue, as I rode away I noticed a bell on a roof top almost opposite this building but that building was twice the size and may have been a replacement for this one. I'll have to go back for the second picture and ask around to learn more.

Lewisham school which is the only survivor in this ghost town. Late 1800's I believe. It's outside of Gravenhurst.

This one is in Zealand, Ontario. Can't really see it well, but you get the idea.
It belongs to the same guy who owns the one we posted in Clarendon Station.

Just thought I would add some from Nova Scotia. Most of the old schoolhouses have been converted to community halls, but I drive by this one on my way to my in-laws. I'll add as many more as I can as long as the weather holds.

Here is a old school near Lyndhurst Ontario.
![]() It's converted into Wendy's Country Market. They sell organic and local produce... the good stuff. We actually buy a lot from them. Well worth a visit. |
