Moto Guzzi to Mongolia. Maybe

Two cracked ribs, three new tyres, major front wheel repair, ECU and HID lights wipeout.

Im still Europe and have only done a thousand miles; just seventeen thousand to go .

I started planning my journey with huge optimism and confidence. But that journey was UK to India, Malaysia, Phillipines, Russian Pacific Coast and home.

When my youngest daughter declared we would be Grandparents in late August, Plan A went out of the window. Enter Plan B London, Kiev, Irkustsk (for Lake Baikal), Ulaan Bataar in Mongolia then home via Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Moldodava Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Balkans, Italy, Switzerland and France.

So here I am, 2 weeks behind schedule having a wonderful time (with the exception of the ribs and repairs) and meeting the most generous, well motivated, kind and helpful people.

I was rescued by the biker Brotherhood in Poland, then twice more by the Brotherhood in Lviv Ukraine and Kiev Ukraine.
Right now Im in Kiev, planning on moving Thursday or Friday.

So f youd like to read the rides, please take a look at www.derekmansfield.co.uk / 2012.

If you go there, the Google ads might cough up some money in a month or two so maybe Ill get home again.

If this is abuse of the forum please tell me and Ill post the ride reports here anyway

Well I made it Mongolia and back.
Caught a cracked ankle in Kazakhstan to go with the ribs.
I offed about 6 times... but the bike was brilliant and stood up to it all.
Apart from the puncture in Poland and consequential electrics failure (and a slightly buckled front wheel after the off in Lviv Ukraine) there were no mechanical failures - about 13,000 mile door to door.
On my return to England the right hand cylinder was clanking a bit. Cams and followers says the Techie.. known fault he says.
Anyone know about Cams and followers?

I believe there was a recall on cams and followers in the 2009 model, but there are others here who will know more.

Congrats on the successful completion of an epic journey! Looking forward to reading a complete ride report.
