Although I do most of my hunting in upstate NY there are few decent hunting spots on the island. The problem is theres to many stupid people with guns hunting in them and I'll spend the better part of a day pulling ticks of the mutt.

He's an English Springer Spaniel but I keep his hair short so its hard to tell sometimes. He was originally purchased from a breeder in SD by a woman in NJ that had a disability and could not handle such an active dog. We adopted him from her. Best free dog I ever got.

Thanks. They are all full of "personality". Mines full of "gonna eat the mail, sleep on the dinning room table, Hey I ate 3 rolls of toilet paper while you were out" kind of personality. Actually as he gets older he's calmed down. Sometimes I miss the crazy pup that he was.

I hate those damn ticks. I love to bring my dog out in the field, but at the same time I feel guilty subjecting her to those bloodsuckers. Didn't realize there was any open space left to hunt out there, also figured it was a rather hostile climate for hunters. Anyway, nice looking pup.

Yeah he's vaccinated but I'm not.

If those little fuckers drop off in the house then I'm at risk.

Do you hunt Sterling?

No, mostly pheasant, I've tried grouse twice but haven't got any yet.....

Just messing with you 2 or 3 weeks ago was the first time I have ever been to Sterling, nice place I might try it this year, My dog club holds practices and field trials there.

I just sent in the permit application. I'm in Western Nassau so the drive up there is just about as long as the drive out east if I'm going for a day trip. I've had some decent luck with grouse at Bear Spring Mountain near Walton (Delaware Co.) Usually kick'em up on accident when out for pheasant. Good luck on the upcoming season. Looks like your dog does his job well.

I was scouting locations to hunt turkeys last year, came home with a tick. Next day, had a big red spot where the tick was. Went to the doctor, came home with a weeks worth of antibiotics. Not fun. The doc said it probably wasn't attached long enough to transmit the disease, but gave me drugs just in case. Lesson learned though. I never enter the woods now without plenty of DEET and the dog gets sprayed down with flea and tick spray too.

I used to hunt Sterling when it was owned by a private company, and could justify the extra permit fee.

Now the state owns it, but continues to charge an extra fee. Aren't the huge increases they put in place for licenses enough?

Buddy

heres a pic of my best friend Buddy, out on a canoe ride at the summer house in downeast Maine. he's a chow mix(maybe a lab) rescued him 4 years ago. he was a stray, the dog catcher had been trying to catch him for 2 weeks! I have no idea how old he is. except for the fact that he doesn't like to swim, hes the best dog ever!
