Well I'm back!

Reached Wetherby and the rear engine bracket fractured all the way across. Had to trundle back up the A1 at 30, using a ratchet strap to keep the engine in.

I also have an issue starting the bike when it's been ran for a while, with exhaust fumes going through the air filter (plumes of white smoke). It blew the paper filter to bits.

Throttle is way to hard and hurts wrist keeping it at 55. I've tried lowering the spring and bought a "thumb throttle" with hope it'll help.

Determined as ever, the engine came out this evening as me and neighbour made a new bracket using same stuff as the front one. I'll re-try tomorrow.

Here goes everything ... attempt #2.

Delayed as the exhaust had fractured and required welding...

I am in lyon alternator fell off at leeds but working despite daamage. Only doing 50 throttle too hard on wrist must have spring wrong. Rear tyre and chain damaged tring to get em replaced. Seal on prim drive failed i have no oil in clutch. Engine continues to try starting backwards. Spent more on toll roads than fuel

Snoopy, you'll remember the various parts of this trip by the breakdowns

Good on you for trying, better still for succeeding!

Now in Nice . My mate thought it would be funny to spend the first night in a hostel (room has 12 blokes in it)...

Strange noises coming from the primary drive casing. I have turned music up to compensate.

Split link on chain has been wearing through the casing so I reversed it. Front brake has turned to absolute shit. Found a dealer and hope to get the oil leak sorted as everything is covered.

Still I made it.

That front brake will never be as good as a disc but the Hitchcocks website has a pdf on a pretty easy way of setting it up .I did it on mine and it improved it heaps .A well set up twin leading shoe can be just fine .

Did that before I left. Still crap.

Today the air filter bracket weld failed. Cable tied and electrical tape came out...

The oil leak I investigated further. The gearbox is on a pivot and bolted to the engine but the top of the gearbox (and the rear frame) can flex towards the engine a little - the flex comes from the primary drive chain which does it on the compression cycle. If I had of bolted through all four gearbox holes instead of just the bottom it would have been much better, but still not good - a spacer between the engine and gearbox (top part) needs to be made to prevent the clutch seal eventually blowing (as mine has). Should get the problem fixed tomorrow.

Nice is a great start. Tomorrow Monaco.

You'll get more attention on your bike than any of the glitterati in their Lambo's.
