My Teeny, Tiny Adventure Bike

1984 JDM Honda Runaway (AKA Urban Express Deluxe) "Noped"

Niceties: 12v electronics - Electric Start - Oil Injection - 75mpg

Performance Upgrades:
-Stock Carb and Jet
-Boyeson Performance Reeds
-70cc "Wizard" Cylinder Kit
-Milled Head for Hi-Comp
-Expansion Chamber Pipe
-Modidifed front Variator
-Shinko Trials Motorcycle Rubber
-XJ650 Rear Shock

Responding well to modifications for speed and hill climbing power, the Runaway is delivering a cruising speed in excess of 40mph, and will wind out just shy of 50mph. For verification, I have run several tests using a GPS program called Runkeeper. This bike was a 25mph machine when we got it, bone stock, back in the beginning of summer.

Well, obviously I'm just showing off my little bike, so feel free to criticize or better- offer advice for more fun to be had with it. I'm having a blast playing with this responsive little platform, and highly recommend snatching one up if you see one, they're really rewarding to fix up and ride. I think I paid $220 for the Runaway from a kid off CL. In total with all performance upgrades, I am still into this bike less than $600, easy. I hope you like it!

you could get some saddlebags from the local farm supply store that would fit on that pretty well.

I know it's far from ideal and normally, I'd have it low and centered. My MotoFizz bag sits in front of it almost always across the CycleRack and now that I've got my bigger Clarke gas tank, I seldom have the Kolpin on these days.

From a purely practical side, the bike is STILL less top heavy and easier to handle than most of the machines out getting dirty. I promise you that picking it up, w/ the Kolpin full at 1.5 gallons in mud would be very much preferred to picking up my buddies GS1150 in the same conditions. He carries his gas where we all think it should be...... he just carries too much of it (and too much of everything else if you ask me).

Re: the Exhaust- I completely agree. It was made for a Honda Hobbit moped, a completely different bike. I'm actually working on picking up a pipe this week froma friend which will mount up much more snugly. This pipe hits like a champ at high RPM's but I'm looking forward to trying out the other which is known for it's low and mid range hit.

The replacement pipe is called the Proma Circuit

I'll post pics when I get it on for sure.

Nice little bike, I love the creative farkling you've done.

I used to own the base model 1980 NC50 Express with the wind-up kick starter. I liked it but it was pretty slow. I eventually drilled out the exhaust "stinger" with a long drill, richened the jetting a smidgen and gained about 6 MPH, and gained some hill climbing power.

It also used to slowly dump it's injection oil into the engine if it sat for a few months so I plugged off the injector and went for 40:1 premix, which it seemed to prefer.

All in all very solidly built and always willing to run, I gave mine away along with a Velo Solex I should have kept..
