the first real scooter 1919
This is one of the imate picture of a ABC Skootamota, once of the first sit down scooters 1919. Everything is there that on a scooter. floor brakes etc.
to quote off another website: The compact A.B.C. 'Skootamota' motor scooter was designed by Granville Bradshaw. It was one of the best of the early examples of this form of vehicle which have become so widely adopted as an economical and convenient means of personal transport. [edit] How it works The frame is made of light duplicated tubes arranged in open form, with a seat fitted at the rear and a steering head in front. A wide foot board is fixed in the open I portion of the frame and the steering is by a pair of handlebars. The wheels are fitted with 16” by 2 3/8” tyres, and the machine weighs 98 lb. The horizontal single-cylinder, air-cooled engine unit is attached to a bracket immediately over the rear wheel, which it drives through a single chain and sprockets. The gear ratio is 9.6 to 1. The 124 cc engine (60 mm by 44 mm) has an overhead inlet valve operated by a push-rod, and a side exhaust valve. A combined petrol-and-oil tank is positioned over the horizontal engine. External-contracting band brakes are fitted to front and rear wheels and are controlled respectively by hand and foot levers. ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/9383961...7602428468296/

That would be a great project. A weedwacker motor, a tubing bender and a welder and off we go a century back in time.

Yep, carbide lamp.
Looks just like the one a mate gave me once, said he found it at a market for cheap, reminded him of the old bits of polished up "junk" I collected occasionally, so bought it for me.......for $5! It's now polished up and sitting on my display shelf in the lounge room.
