Luckily my addiction is being a tightwad, coupon clipper, it helps cancel out the urge to splurge!

Nice bike. But i would take off the headlight cover. These headlights can take some beating, i´ve been roosted many times and can´t see it on the headlight.

here is my new toy, a '12 990R. bought it new a few weeks ago. have put over 500 on it so far with about 120 being in the dirt.
picking it up at the dealer... ![]() so far i have added crash bars, cases and carriers, BDC side-stand relocator, and the OEM plastic tank covers. ![]() so far i'm tickled pink. only issue i have found is that at high speeds, on wash boardy, graded roads, she get's a pretty nasty head shake. i've never used a damper before but i think i might with this bike. it's a little un-nerving to have that much mass, moving at that speed, and try to get away from you... ![]() laramie

Congrats Laramie! That's a good looking machine. I have a steering stabilizer on my to-do list as well, i'm sure that will help your situation. Enjoy!

We were Inmates in both 640 threads, we are inmates here now, we changed to 990 almost at the same time I'm also trying to get used to this new to me beast, the weights and behaviour are very different from our mighty 640. I still couldn't ride her much as I would like, can't wait to ride her offroad and get to know each other... sure we'll have situations and discussions but hope she can be patient and compassionate with me, that will make us a good couple... ![]() Cheers! .

thanks guys. good to see ya.
although we are still getting to know each other the 120 miles i did in the dirt was an eye opener. spent most of the day steering with my rear tire and just haulin' arse. the weight is the biggest thing, you gotta be prepared to deal with it at any moment. moving is better than not though. hell, i think the scariest part is simply getting on the bike and getting going. all that weight seems to want to tip at a moments notice, like it's constantly checking to make sure you are paying attention to it. laramie

You'll lose a bit, well, quite a bit of turning radius, a bit of ground clearance and a gain of stopping distance so plan ahead on line selection. Treat it like a kid, manipulate it to do what you want, don't fonce it unless you're so big you make it look like a 125!
