Dammit, that was fast! What gave it away? Was it that little boat down there in the river?

Well that's about the truth.

I've driven from Sydney to Adelaide with a little side trip down to Tasmania.

I didn't have a back left after all that driving and look, it's just a fraction of the continent. We could have saved some time and went straight through Greece.

Thing is, 2000 miles in Oz has as much diversity as 2000 miles in space. 200 miles in the UK has a diversity most of the rest of the world can only dream about (particularly the weather!). 2000 miles through Europe unveils half a dozen languages and cultures. Much better than a sepia moonscape.

That's what makes Australia so much damn fun! How many international tourists do you see in the middle of nowhere in Australia - Heaps! They love it too!

Besides, its driving/riding through the great nothingness is what makes the journey an adventure. It ain't like going down to the shop to get the days paper. - It sorts the men from the boys.

Actually .... Sydney to Darwin Vie Broken Hill is more like Paris to Dakar

It's interesting that that is the same as Istanbul to John O Groats vie Balsarno in Italy

Don't get me wrong I love Europe. I chose to marry in Sultarnament, Istanbul.

and still probably not as dangerous as the 30 miles from Manchester to Leeds.

Don't get me wrong, I love Australia. I chose to send my least favourite relatives there.

I hope you lads realise I'm only kidding. The extreme geographical and cultural differences between Oz and Europe, for example, are what makes each of them so fascinating to visitors from the other.
