I rode east out of Phoenix towards Globe...

Asphalt Fun...

Lake Roosevelt is as full as I've ever seen it.

I did the Apache Trail (US 88) East to West.

22 miles of twisty dirt roads and scenery.

The Area Around Fish Creek. The road runs under the cliff up to the right of the photo.

A Peek Over The "Guardrail"

Thanks nvblue! I get asked about the camera alot. These shots were taken with a Panasonic Lumix TZ5. I had it set on the "Intelligent Auto" mode and the color setting of "Vibrant".

Great pictures. Isn't it AZ 188 (not us 88?)?

Ya know, I saw more HD's than any other brand. Not that that's got me seeing orange and black...

The road typically thought of as The Apache Trail is the US 88 from Apache Junction to the Roosevelt Dam. I see Google Maps also has the section of US 188 from the Dam to Globe named The Apache Trail.

Copied from my previous RR; The Apache Trail began as a route used by the Apache Indians as they moved through the Superstition Mountains. It became heavily used during the construction of the Roosevelt Dam in 1905. President Theodore Roosevelt toured the road by car in 1911 while on the way to the dam and lake named in his honor. He called The Apache Trail "One of the most spectacular best-worth-seeing-sights of the World".

The Apache Trail is a popular day trip for tourists in rental cars. Most of the tourist traffic runs eastbound making the opposite direction my preferred choice for a motorcycle ride.

Back to the Photos!

Who painted my name on the "Guardrail"?

As you no doubt guessed, I'm a google maps victim! I really liked your pictures and thought on the off chance I ever get out that way it'd be an interesting road to ride so looked for it on GM.

Thanks for the clarification (and additional picture).
