"a beast the color of winter"

I lurked or years while riding a XR650L, rode with QWIK through through deserts of Idaho, into the Owyhees and decided I too needed a Adventure. I searched long and hard, looked longingly at numerous bikes on ADV, Craigslist, and fleabay. Then at my local dealer I happened across a deal that I could not pass up.
So here it is my 2010.
The pics are rom a ride I just completed this weekend through Central Idaho (419 miles) Its maiden voyage.
As an Avid hunter I just finished reading a book by Douglas Chadwick, called "A Beast the Color of Winter", a study of Mountain goats. During this ride, as I looked at my new KTM, I thought how appropriate that I am riding a "Beast the Color of Winter" into some of Idahos most rugged country.

A beast the color of winter.

I forgot to add, en-route to Idahos back country apparently I was treating the new KTM in a similiar fashion to my sport bikes, and unbeknownst to me, there was a heavy motors officer presence on the one piece of 15 mile or so stretch of asphalt that we covered. WHOOPS! They were extremely courteous, and professional, and let me off with a warning. I found that it would be somewhat amusing if a motors officer sat on mt white KTM.

Near Elk Summit, between Big Creek, and the S. Fork of the Salmon River.

Beast the Color of Winter

They were taking turns, one on radar, 2 to pursue. All sitting in that pull out, radar pointed both directions. They just stepped out as I approached directed me to pull over.

You're on a KTM! They are on BMWs for Pete's sake.

I have visions of the dumb old Empire trying to snag the Millenium Falcon and then Han kicks in the hyperdrive. If you had had the Go Pro facing backwards, it would have been even better.

Just kidding. Amazing how good the TKCs are on pavement though, isn't it? I have found deliberately riding with crappier (for black top) knobbies has mutated into a form of licence preservation.

QWIK,
Seems to me that you and I had been pulled over a number of years ago on sport bikes here in Idaho and let go with a warning. Then you decided to do a wheelie next to the Police. Oh pretty sure I have the pictures from that as well.
So Yes, you have had that happen before.
