Rivet link fatigue, classic failure mode. Sack the guy who fitted the chain. It's really important to ensure that the link is pressed parallel otherwise the side plates bend slightly (on a micron level) every time the chain goes around. This causes fatigue and the results you see. Nearly always happens on the rivet link due to this. Obviously it could have been a flaw in the material but since it's on the rivet link, this cause is far more likely.

Time to drag your chain tools out from under the seat......right?

.... the forum suddenly goes very quiet as we all disappear into the garage and get busy with our verniers ;)
