The problem isn't the weight of the bike, it's the weight of the luggage. Ditch all the hard luggage, and even soft panniers for that matter. Also, IMO, the 990 runs like a dream with 16/45 and a 908 on the rear. It blows my mind how people load these things up. I cry my eyes out when I've got to carry one spare gallon of fuel on my pannier racks.
