gas is about 1 euro a liter, average price all over eastern europe, except greece & turkey are alot more.

rooms are pretty cheap in most places, except in sofia (hostels the way to go there) or some of the bigger resorts along the beach.

Plan on 10-20 euros a night. even on the beach, you can find something in that price range.

We charge 10 a nite at the motocamp, with breakfast (Poly cooks good, its not just bread & salami like at most places)

I'm no BG travel expert, but if you have any questions, just ask

Doug

Went on holiday to Bulgaria in 2000, typical package holiday trip to Zlatni Piasaci / Golden Sands. I spent most of the 14 days looking around a lovely country. Places I went to included:

1) Excursion to Sozopol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sozopol
2) The Aladzha Monastery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aladzha_Monastery
3) The Archaeological Museum in Varna
4) Naval Museum in Varna
5) University Botanical Gardens & Summer Palace of Queen Marie of Romania Balchik
6) Pobiti Kamani http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pobiti_Kamani

Lovely country, would love to come back - this time on a bike.

I grew up in that town Glad you enjoyed yourself. My wife visited for the first time last summer and loved the gardens and Palace. There was free wine tasting at the winery and that sure boosted our already good mood, ooh boy...

To be honest, I drafted routes a few months before as per the request above. I must have, however, put too much time in it because by the time I was done my session had timed out . So my work went poof. Oh well I'll try again I promise

I will try this again:

Rila Monastery--Melnik (good place to stay the night)--Rojen Monastery--Dospat (good place to stay for the night)--Batak--Belmeken Dam

Not sure if the map will be accessible, Cyrillic encoding might be needed.
