Offloading as in limiting the lifting duty so more lift can be focused on forward thrust.

You can also go faster on a single main rotor system if you can take some weight off the main rotor because less lift is needed, so you can push it faster before the retreating blade stalls.

Couldn't you tilt the mainrotor back slightly and use the lift from that?

You might get a little drag, but Id think you'd be able to go faster before reaching RBS using that method too.

Negative. Tilt it back and sure you gain lift, but you loose thrust. Just a simple vector equation.

Main rotor. Thrust and Lift is the same force they just talk about them as if they are different so the fixed wingers can comprehend.

I thought the whole point was to take power away from the main rotor anyways. That way you wouldn't waste thrust from the tail fan trying to counteract main rotor torque?

I think he's talking about a compounded helicopter (is that the right term?) with a separate device to produce forward thrust (like the X49a pictured a few posts up).

The rotors folded back to form a delta wing once the copter got up to speed. Turbojet propulsion from there.

I dunno what it's called, but I thought the whole idea was to get it up to speed, then transfer the power from the main rotor entirely to the rear fan to provide the forward thrust and use the lift from the already spinning main rotor to keep it in the air.

I dunno that it'd make it really any faster, but I'm betting it'd be a hell of a lot more efficient while in cruise.
