Who wants to try the full scale prototype?

Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
With one blade removed, I have to assume that half the lift has been lost. So do you have to compensate with higher rpm?
Is there also a proportionate loss of response time / effectiveness?

I don't how much you could compensate with RPM, you can only have so much tip speed. Lift capactiy would be minimal with so little wing area. The controls would have to be mushy to say the least. Not such a bad thing for newbies just learning.

Oops, sorry about that Uncle Sam, but I think it will buff out.

Anytime you are flying an aircraft out of sight of your immediate supervisor there are no rules, only your common sense, and experience are there to save you. Young men are often short on both counts.

Apparently, those were just guidelines

I read somewhere that charges are being brought against the pilot.

Watch carefully, frame by frame :38-39 seconds, they hit a guy as it crashed into the ground.

I wasn't sure if it hit that guy or not, but I thought if it didn't it was close as one could get. I read nobody was killed. The video has gone viral (what ever the hell that means). To quote Cousin Eddy, "If that thing had nine lives she just spent em all right there, whew"!

Yep, that's why I'm 64 and still flying (although mostly for fun these days) and I'll bet their flying career is pretty much done.

I only did some orientation stuff in the Apache, but do have more than a couple of hours in Cobras and Hueys (B, C, and M model guns and D and H model slicks, plus some time in A models in training) and there are just some things you don't do if you want to be around to fly for a bunch of years. Yeah, return to target is a nice move, and has been part of gunship doctrine for as long as I can remember (especially for Cobras - not so much for Hueys), but unless you are showing off, you don't get that low before initiating your pull out. As can be seen from the video, it's too easy to misjudge things.

I wonder at what point the pilot knew he was fucked?

Oh I would say when he went to pull out he quickly realized this is going to hurt. Had a few of those moments on motorcycles. I hate that feeling.

Me thinks in the descent when the low rotor audio started going off.
