Where to get a muffler for a KLR 650 in Costa Rica?

So we have a bit more adventure than we were looking for in the mountains of Honduras. Short story is a bruised foot, camping on a coffee farm, and a search for a replacement muffler.

We are currently in Nicaragua, but after a run around every bike shop in Esteli, they concluded that they probably won't have anything that will work in town, or Nicaragua. They suggested trying Costa Rica where bigger bikes are more common. We aren't looking for a kawasaki original part or anything, just something functional and durable to last the remainder of our trip to Argentina.

Anyone have suggestions on where to look?

Why do you think you need a 'new' muffler?

We don't need a "new" muffler. We just need one that works. Our old one went missing (entirely) in the mountains of Honduras. Right now it is kind of loud...

I always thought this was a great idea. I'm sure there's lots of farm tractor suppliers around there.

Tractor supply is a good idea, we will look into it. We will be entering into Costa Rica in a couple days.

Teevee,

We are currently in San Juan del sur and will be crossing into Costa Rica tomorrow. Apparently they have bigger bikes there? Otherwise we may try the tractor supply method.

Thanks for the offer but it is the wrong direction for us.

not sure about the bigger bikes thing. there may be expats living there with bigger machines and a few rental joints, but the locals for the most part ride the same crappy little bikes there as they do throughout latin america. your best bet is to try a muffler shop and ask them to custom make one for ya.

Thanks for the link. We will check that out, is it worth calling beforehand to set something up?

Thanks for the muffler shop recommendation those guys are pros. Looks and sounds better than new, and I am sure it is lighter. We are now all set to keep riding south.
