The last time in WV, I stopped to stay at a motel. I used a cc and provided my driver license. The clerk copied my license and informed me that it was a state law to keep my license for 5 years.
Anyone know if that still is a WV requirement?

I have never heard of that. I would suggest you contact the hotel and demand clarification. I'd consider a credit check on yourself.as well. I will look in my law book at work on Monday and see if there is any legitimacy to it.

The road at the top of Spruce knob
![]() Heading into Bemis, "the back way" as a local told me. CR8 i think? ![]() We were stopped on the side of the road looking at a terrible map trying to figure out how to get to laurel fork on gravel. He said "Well you need to get to Bemis. You can take the highway and get there in 45 minutes, or take this road. I could make it in 10 minutes back in the day on my old dirtbike, but that's hauling ass, and i don't recommend you doing that with her on the back." I always loved riding in West Virginia due to the fucking epicness of the 2 lane highways there. Once i got the tard and started riding gravel.... I'm almost glad i don't live there. Almost. I would find it extremely difficult to make that turn into work in the morning and not just keep going, and going, and going. |

As a geologist and life-long motorcycle addict, this picture gave me a woody!
I've seen it on my way to ski at Snowshoe, but it didn't have a motorcycle parked in front of it.![]() This was my view for MILES coming home from skiing that day , so I got a good look at the little fold as we creeped past. I need to go ride that road again this summer!![]() Here's a shot of something similar that I pass on my way to town from our farm, you can only see it when the leaves are off. ![]() Nice photos, you WV guys. I've been to some of those places, but need to get out and see more, more, MORE!!! Spring's coming! I used to have a DR650 and I really miss it. I sold my dirt bikes when I moved here from Wyoming five years ago, stupidly thinking there wouldn't be any place to ride them out here in the civilized world. ![]() I need to get another dualsport and hook up with you guys! That was a great bike, wish I still had it. I stopped at this spot because I had just accidentally run over a rattlesnake and turned around to see if it was OK; he was PISSED but seemed OK so I gave him some space and left him alone, but since I was stopped anyway it made for a nice shot of the bike Doug

WV code 61-3b-3
The farmer that owns this land has let people walk in there for years. It is legally posted by the fencing. He runs sheep and cattle, along with watch dogs for the flocks and is posted with signs about the dogs all along that road. Actions like this will eventually get it shut down. Being a WV farm/land owner this does not not sit well with me. I'm all for riding back roads and and abandoned roads that are still on the maps. I fight to keep abandoned roads open. But this is IMO, is blantent disrespect for the landowner. We need to keep it on the roads and designated trails folks, or more of it will be closed down.

The Sinks side of the road is not posted(not around the gate anyway), the north side has the warning signs about the dogs. Although you can't see any of the signs in this photo. They're not real big.
