1978 Flh

I just picked up a 1978 FLH. A friend has owned it for 26 years. He parked it 7 years ago when he got a new twin cam. He had plans but never did anything to it, he has not started it in 7 years. Ths bike has every chrome cover and every light ever made along with some home made stuff, plus lots of grease and dirt. I took all the junk off along with a ton of extra wires. I have it running now. I'll put it on the road for a month or so to work out any issues I find. My hope is to tear her down paint and polish befor bike week.
I never did learn how to post pictures, maybe my son can put some up for me.
In the owners manuel I found a receipt from a local shop. I seems it was rebuilt in 97 and only 7,000 miles have been put on the bike since that rebuild. It has 60K showing on the clock at this time.

AWESOME!

I still dream of owning a mid 70's FLH with a "King of the Road" package (pogostick seat/panniers/fancy trim).

Here she is...lotsa blue, lights and shiny stuff .

Looks like a nice way to spend those unbearable Florida winter evenings...

Better buy one soon. They're aren't as many left as you think. Harley was only making 5K or so a year of the FLH then. And most of them are chopped up now.

Don't misunderstand the man- the OP is my dad and is about as far from a "took my trailer to bike week" kind of rider as you can get.

Ride safe and lets keep this thread on topic; pieces of old iron and the men that love them.

The pictures were taken when I first rolled her into the garage. FYI, Daytona Bike Week is the first full week in March.

I like it so much I'd personally leave it alone except for the detailing! Super nice old Harley! I'd love to find something like that some day!

Did you get the original carb and oval cover as well or just the Mikuni? Have fun with that bike!
