Welcome to the Forum.. Yes there are lots of V.I. members but for some reason they seem to be busy - my guess is that they're out taking advantage of the fine riding weather upon us.

You folks heading to Renfrew from Sooke be safe. The turns from sombrio to the switchback is very dirty and an excavator was driven down it. Dusty dirty asphalt will keep the waaaambulance busy.

I took a ride up to Port Alberni this morning - time to get in contact with old friends again from the home town. Just after 10 A.M. , I was heading north past the Nanaimo Airport in Cassidy when I noticed an issue in traffic up ahead - a crowd was gathering. I soon found out what was the problem - a fellow rider was down in the middle of the road, the reason for this I could not determine. His bike was laying over on the shoulder of the road in the gravel and the poor fellow was being comforted by bystanders as he lay near the centre lane. He was only wearing a T-shirt and the road rash was quite visible as I slowly passed. Emergency vehicles were arriving so I pressed onward.

The image stuck with me as I rode today, and I couldn't get over how many people were riding around with shorts, sandals, beanies, T-shirts and other in-adequate protective gear - the forecast was for the low 30's up in the mid-Island. I was in full gear and quite comfortable - as long as I was moving. I don't think that I ever saw this little safety gear on people during my time in the Lower Mainland. Bit of an eye opener.
