I own a BMW so the only app I need is the Starbucks app.
HD riders only need the HD Service Center locator app. |

Love Harley's ... HOG stock is up to $44 today!!! A few more points up and I'll be on the road come summer. Love HD ride BMW's.
I'm still using my weather apps, RadarScope, Accuweather, Weather channel. MotionX and Greatest Roads to supplement MadMaps and Garmin for naviation. FirstAid and Epocrates for medical. TripAdvisor, booking.com, Hotels.com, AllStays Camp and RV, along with a bunch of individual hotel apps, BestWestern, Choice and others. Food, Yelp, foodspotting. Best, most used" TPE (the photographer's ephemeris), f8, photobuddy and snapseed. Nothing better than to know when the light will be just right.

I'm an "Apple Developer" and publish a small Motorcycling App.
Because of this I was able to install the new IOS 6 on my iPad yesterday. The new maps program is pretty sweet so I though I would share a few screen shots. I took some of Engineer Pass in Colorado so I could post some real photos of the pass with it to show how sweet the new Apple Maps are. (also has turn by turn nav built in now too) The red pin on the map is one imported from the Google Maps that was on my ipad when I was on top of Engineer Pass. I dropped the pin at the sign for reference. This could be really cool stuff for trip planning. It was very easy to follow the trail and get a feeling for what it would be like to ride from the quality of the map images and the 3D topo. ![]() ![]() ![]() Notice the flaws in this one? But look at it compared to the photo below it. ![]() Real photos of the pass taken last week. ![]() ![]() ![]()

os6 question
for Xtremjeepn. What is not mentioned-or I wasn't able to find is if the new mapping software will take advantage of satellite capabilities of the iPhone? I bought the $40.00 garmin app and it utilizes satellite when cell service is not available which is very nice.
Also, do you know if the new mapping software is "smart"? Meaning that if you make a wrong turn it will re route you? The current google maps doesn't do this. Heck, the free map quest software will even handle this(AWESOME free app by the way). Thanks in advance if you have this info. I'm hopeful the new making software is more than just cool eye candy. I was already reading peoples disgust in the San Francisco Bay Area that it seems that they don't have public transit direction like google has that show you how long until the next bus, shortest routes, etc.. Maybe that will be added by time of release? |

I'm sure they have some catching up to do with the Google maps in some venues. (for example the Sat image of my house is about 6 years old on the Apple Maps
) I personally love my phones (android and Iphone 4s) and Ipad for around town or normal "travel nav" BUT......... for the motorcycle I prefer a dedicated GPS unit for several reasons. Usually more durable, more sunlight readable, glove friendly, and it takes your PHONE out of harms way incase you NEED it for emergency calls, etc. I use my ipad and my Evo a TON when traveling on the bike to find food, plan routes etc. But as soon as the bike is in motion or there is water falling the phone stays in a safe waterproof place for emergency use only.

There's a bunch of good stuff in iOS 6. To add to what xtremjeepn wrote: * iOS 6 -will- be released this fall, whether or not there are going to be new devices announced at the same time. * Devices that will get it: iPhones back to the 3GS, iPod touch 4th gen, iPad 2nd and 3rd gen. That said, not all features will be available on all devices. For example, map flyover and turn-by-turn directions will require an iPhone 4S or later or an iPad 2nd generation or later. I'm interested in seeing how far we can take the Eyes Free and add to Siri. For less wet, less bumpy rides, it would be good to throw the iPhone into a case or backpack and be able to use a Siri button attached on the handlebar. Daniel
