Thanks. It wasn't that way circa a year and a half ago, but I'll check into it again now.

For long on road trips Loaded it on my ipad mini. It's much easier to see at speed. And nice to have after the riding is done.

Navigon and TomTom, once you download the desired maps.

Or Sygic, which uses TomTom maps but is often cheaper.

I have a question for a change. What GPS software for driving directions can I use offline and in Canada? I only plan to use it for one day. So I would rather use something free or very cheap. Any suggestions?

That is intriguing. I have MotionX Drive, but not Live Navigation (haven't pulled the trigger). I can not add stops to a route. Under settings, there is an option
'Optimize the order of Stops added to your route (Live Guidance Only)'.
Adding waypoints to a route is only an option if subscribing to Live Guidance as well?

iOS7 is now available to download. I hope its good. I feel with Jobs gone things will go downhill. But I assumed 5 years after his death. Its only 2 years. I figured we are looking at the last of the Jobs inspired ideas.

The misses upgraded so Ive got her old iPhone 3 to use as an iPod and maybe GPS. Am I gonna be pleased with the results? Or should I quit being a tightass and save for a purpose built GPS?

It doesn't have much resale value, so you might as well have some fun with it . Actually, smartphones make pretty good GPSes. The major conflict I have with it is that I want to be able to use my phone to phone (and do other Internetty stuff). If you don't have that tension, by all means use it.

If you don't have data service on it, grab one of the Navigation apps that don't need network. I like Navigon, but there are cheaper alternatives.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't have any value. It would sit in a drawer otherwise. I've got a 4s that I use for a phone but I don't want to eat up all my data on that phone. Or deal with the tension, as you put it, of using it for other tasks.

I will look into some of the GPS apps. I saw that the tomtom app was pretty popular and I will look into the navigon app as well.
