Romney Cycles Camp & Ride Weekend 2015

Romney Cycles in Romney, West Virginia has sponsored a campout the first weekend in May the last few years. This was the first one I've attended. I used to own property in the area, so I know this part of WV pretty well. This will mostly be a photo ride report.

I left Davidsonville, MD at 5am headed for Charles Town, WV so I would beat the DC traffic mess.

This is where my weekend really started...

Charles Town, WV. Friday 7am.

From Charles Town it was all two lane and single lane back roads to Romney.

Back to WV after passing through a section of VA.

The Little Cacapon River.

The Potomac Eagle.

To be continued...

Thanks y'all.

After getting to Romney and setting up my tent I wanted to go for a short ride before dinner. Three friends from PA, BroncoDave, eddie bolted, and AMMO CAN GS wanted to ride along.

We headed south towards Moorefield & Petersburg through the South Branch valley.

Pit stop south of Moorefield along the South Branch Potomac River.

Like I said, it was a short ride and I didn't take any more pics Friday.

Saturday, BroncoDave, AMMO CAN GS, and wmfleet followed me west on US-50 towards Grafton, WV.

About 70 miles west of Romney they decided they wanted to ride some roads I had rode the week before, so I headed to Grafton solo. I had some new roads to check out.

In Grafton I got on US-119 south.

Passed the cool old Grafton Post Office on the way out of town.

More after dinner...

South of Grafton is the town of Philippi, I took a detour through town.

There was a big ass yard sale going on in front of the County Courthouse.

The reason I went through town was so I could ride across the historic Philippi Covered Bridge over the Tygart River.

South of Philippi on US-119 in Volga, WV., I took a left on CR-11 towards Belington, WV.

I was looking for a place to stop for a pit stop and found this on CR-11/3.

It's the Appalachian & Ohio Railroad trestle over the Buckhannon River.

Cr-11 was a very cool road. This was only about 10 minutes of it.

I put the camera away and enjoyed the rest of the twisties into Belington.

Once in Belington I went south on US-250, then a left on Laurel Mountain Rd.(CR-15) towards Elkins, WV.

The beginning of Laurel Mountain Rd. in Belington.

To be continued...

Laurel Mountain Rd., headed for the top of the ridge.

First part was broken pavement.

Then hard packed dirt.

The view to the left.

Further up, looking back towards Belington.

The top of the mountain from the same spot.

Almost at the top.

Just over the top.

Down the other side.

A ramp burger for lunch at Little Andi's in Parsons.

I didn't take many pics on the ride back to Romney, but I had to stop and take one on Greenland Gap Rd.

Most of the pics I took at the campout were out of focus, I did get a couple of our master fire tender, Burg Man.

Thanks to Romney Cycles, Inmates WreckChecker & DirtDad, and everyone that had a hand in putting this event on. It was well run and the riding was excellent. I'll be back next year.

The soft beauty of the Appalachian Highlands always reminds me of home.

Cheers Wayne, thanks for the ride.
