He won it by an innings and 71 runs - almost the number of runs that were added when he batted on the fourth morning (69).

Your attempt at wit is about as limp wristed as an Aussie fast bowler.

Speaking of that - one of the commentators said - "...Aussie fast bowlers used to intimidate English batsman, now they only scare their Captain.."

Yup; Strauss got it just about right! Maybe I should make predictions more often!

Wicked Googly

I just wanted to get on and say wicked googly to people that would actually know what it is.

You think it sounds funny when you say it...I used to work with a Pakistani guy and you ad his accent and it would just crack me up. He was a top notch guy, so I tried to take him seriously...but wow, it was hard when he would try to explain cricket to me.

I have the same issue when trying to explain baseball and/or (American) football to Brits...each game has it's little foibles.

Someone seems to have forgotten who it is that lost the Ashes.

A fine attempted side-step but they held the Ashes when they arrived in England for the last series.

But thank you. If England 'lose' this series, I shall be certain to refer to it as having "failed to retain."

We always keep them anyway. If the Aussies win, we just give them a model of 'em.

The Series may have a few surprises yet ...

The Sheik of Tweak - King of Spin is heavily rumored to be coming out of retirement .. If, IF offered the captaincy

SHANE Warne would happily play for Australia if he was offered the position of Australian captain, Dean Jones claims.

As the questions surrounding Ricky Ponting's captaincy grow louder after a disastrous second Ashes Test, cricket legend Jones told 3AW radio today that he knew "for a fact" that Warne would play if offered Ponting's position.

"Warnie, without doubt, no joke, could actually come back," Jones said.

"I'll say this, categorically, because I want everyone to understand it, if Cricket Australia walked up to Shane Warne and said 'Would you come out of retirement and we'll give you the captaincy for two years', I know for a fact he would take it. He would play.

"With bells on, he'd be running out of his house right now putting on his cricket shoes and putting on the runners to get himself fit.

I agree with Mike Gatting about Ponting, he should go - Easy to Captain a stellar side he had a couple of years ago, even Oscar could have done the job with the talent pool on hand then

English spinner Graeme Swann said today the calls for Warne to come out of retirement prove Australia is running scared.
That's all that needs to be said about a return of Warne.
