Meet Charity. Named so as I haven't paid for her yet. heh.

From what I can tell, a 1968 BSA Shooting Star 441.

Currently still in project bike mode. Need to actually get her on a stand and start doing things with her this winter. Will have to do new tires(pretty sure the ones on it are original), the front forks are frozen/don't have any oil and a leak, and need to fix the speedo and redo the wiring. Wiring is kind of a funny story as prior to a mistake of mine she ran and lights worked. Proof! I swear she started first kick right before I started this video.

So, she ran, I actually had her tuned a bit better but still had the locked forks and bad tires so not like I was taking any long rides on her. Then, I had the battery out for some reason and when putting it back in my dumb ass crossed up the wires. "What's all this smoke" I say as I noticed that the wires coming off the battery were glowing red and melting their coverings. Whoops. Disconnected the battery again but pretty sure I probably fried everything. Going to just go with new wiring all together. Garage was nice and smoky for a bit, stunk, woof.

Love BSA.

the wires were red hot?

Positive ground.

I once had the misfortune of having the negative short to ground pre fuse.
This will melt every red (pos) wire in the harness.

All the other components survived!

Back in the day my fellow riders were on hornets, lightnings, royal stars, and thunderbolts. A few nortons, rocket 3's and triumphs thrown in.
Not a single one of those guys still has their bike, if they even still ride!

Finds like these help me keep my main machine running...

If you painted those, that's excellent work.

here's a story

So....
I had dropped in for a burger at the old style drive up burger place and was waiting for them to finish cooking it.
As is very usual a stranger asks questions about my BSA. The guy states how his dad was trying to have him buy a B50 off the floor in 73. But instead he wanted fast and got a 2smoke. Sure...
The one surprising thing at the time is that he actualy asked if it was a B50 when most people have no idea at all what make or year it is.

Jump ahead 2 or 3 months and I happened to be checking Craig's list for BSA's. I see this ad that obviously was directed at me.
That guy although he was still dreaming about that B50 had bought a basket 63 star and was looking for some help, parts, advise.
I went ahead and got a hold of him. Turns out he's a few blocks away.
It's been a year now, and although the initial thing was to get the motor running and see how that goes, it's now getting his own style of makeover.
The motor is a 441. The swap hadn't been taken beyond fitting the motor.
The motor sounds fine, but there's many little things to sort out.
Looks like it will be ready for next season.

He's personalizing it without regard to OEM.
Altered graphics and color. Painting chrome fenders. All new bobber tailight assembly ect... the seat is now recovered.
There have been some real hassles with the little bugger, like getting the forks apart to do the seals.
sourcing parts and getting the right parts.
For instance, those kickstart quadrants made from inferior metal that explode in short order!
You order badges and they send one with silver and one with gold writing.
(One faded?)
