"Made just for looks" might be a little harsh, but Süsser Tod is right. The problem with Yamaha bringing the Tenere to the US is that it would compete against the KLR650. It will be even heavier, it will not be substantially more powerful, but it will be far more expensive. So will US buyers spend an extra $2-3000 for a better looking KLR? History says no. Yamaha has done their homework.

This past Sunday, I asked a Yammie rep at their Bike Week show when they were bringing in the T660.. All he said is 'I hope so; I'll be the first in line to get one!'. Never did really answer the question though..

They probably would. Can't be any less modern then a Honda XR650L.

Hey, y'all!
Once again I'll say: you got to ride one, before you can judge one! I've done more then 90.000km's on my '08 Tenere, without any major problems. I ride the bike as much as I can(mostly short roadtrips and longer travels, no commuting), I prefer twisty backroads and mountainroads, but highway ridin' is also very doable(stretches around 800km's a day, no sweat!). It's a smooth ride(for a thumper!), hardly any vibes, weight is no issue(as long as you don't do any hardcore offroad, offroad can be done with the right tyres and attitude&skills!), power is sufficient, good fuel economy(very good EFI), low maintenance costs(I do around 20.000km's with a set of tyres and chain&sprockets), lotsa choice in aftermarket stuff, reliable and most important...fun to ride! This all as long you keep in mind it's designed as a allround allroad travel bike and not as an offroad bike! Imho it can do everything I want a bike to do and then some, I don't need a big hightech bike with electronic gadgets, which also costs big bucks: I'm totally happy with my little Tenere!! Hope y'all get the chance to ride one or at least get the oppurtunity to choose by YamahaUSA...... Greetz, Hans. Upgrades and farkles: -Hyperpro progressive springs front&back -Hepco&Becker alu panniers and frame -Touratech handguards, saddle, luggage carrier and bag, ribbed footpegs, sidestand enlargener, 12v socket, tankbag -Leovince SBK exhaust system -Offtheroad front fender enlargener -Heidenau K60 Scouts -MDI handlebar risers 30mm -KEDO oiltemp.gauge

I like the looks of the XT660R, but the Z not so much. I'd love to see another middleweight dual sport in the US.

I wandered through the Yamaha display area at C.O.T.A. during the Moto GP and bent the ear of a couple of reps. I said , Here you have this great big bike the Super Ten and a great little bike in the WR 250 , now how about something for the rest of us, something in the middle? How about bringing in a replacement for my tired old KLR, why not bring in the 660 ?
Yamaha is not intrested in bringing in a bike that will sell 2000 units per year.Is what he said. Oh, so you bring us another version of the cruiser, the Bolt? Yeah, that's what sells. ![]()
