Snow skiing can also be done w/o a lift Did the annual snow camp this past weekend with a few buddies. We parked at Bennett Pass and skied in pulling sleds. Two of us even came back to get firewood.

Snow/ski camping

Cool, looks like fun.
Sure makes it easy not having to pack and cooler and ice!

Cool matloik, looks like a good time around the Hood.
I love Bennet Pass Rd. into Badger, it's one of my favorites; on a MOTORBIKE

Pulling sleds, touring skis,...... what a stud!

One of the best days on Bachelor - looking at Tumalo Butte from Sunrise, it's cold.

Backside - all laid out.

Too busy to take many photos, this is all I shot!

Four days on the North side of Mt Hood

Okay, so it's cold and we have new snow! That means it's time to get some turns in, and we did We had everything over the last four days from knee deep fluff to wind pack, calm to forty five mile an hour wind and blowing snow. Yes, winter is back and it's looking good for now Sorry but no downhill skiing shots. The only time that I could pull out the camera was when we were going up hill

Not all of our time was spent skiing.

Early in the morning on the second day, outside air temp -2 deg. and that was without the East wind.

We are off to the left skyline on the photo above for some real nice powder It's not often that you can ski light snow from so high, all the way down into the trees!

CrashClay not riding a moto

One photo before we ski some GREAT snow

Night at Cloud Cap

Saturday morning and weather is coming out of the west again with strong wind so no more light snow up high. Spent the day skiing in the trees.

Well, that's about it for the past few days but they are forecasting more snow for the next week so it's looking like winter again!

niii - iiiice

Thanks for those rare pics from Cloud Cap in the winter ! Very Nice.
I wish I'd of known someone was up there skiing this side, I'd have brought the telescope out to spy on ya

I got my Meadows Spring Pass from Saturday's local radio auction for $80.
But I won't get to ski that lonely North side
You'll have to tell me that story someday.

WOW! spectacular conditions and shots. Haven't been up on that majestic N. side for quite awhile but it sure looks inspiring - and a cat ride to Cloud Cap too!?!?

We (Crag Rats) use them for search & rescue operations and like all things mechanical you need two so that you can run parts and tools to the other one! When they work it's great but when they don't there is nothing more fun than working on a snow cat in the middle of a snow storm and 40 mph wind! Or in the case below this weekend, quote "I thought it was full of gas!" wrong!!! How many times have you heard that one on a ride, anyway, it's all fun.

Great shots Craig! And thanks for sharing. I've been lucky enough to spend a few nights at Cloud Cap and there isn't anything better Tilly Jane trail is going to look a little different after this week.

While just visiting Cloud Cap one sunny Summer day, my wife and I got a nice personal and historical tour of all the inside from Bernie Wells,
when he was up there staying and saw us walking around outside.

Cool visit and tour, it must be pretty neat in the Winter.

Yesterday did XC skiing at Tea Cup, managed to not eat any food all morning and forget to bring food\water. Quickly left the groomed stuff for back country style skiing, forgetting that I was using rented touring gear.

Then got lost for about 5 miles out of the 10 or 11 that we covered.

Never underestimate the effects of no food and not being able to use your poles! (baskets too small for the deep snow in the woods)

A couple times yesterday (3/5) the quote from Direwolf goes through my mind - "Now - lets see how long art takes with the Cascades getting 30" of powder today, and wachs being a powder whore."

It's so true - I am a powder whore and cannot get enough. 15" surprise dump on saturday (no photos) and the sun comes out today, summit open at 9:00 AM this morning, freshly waxed piggies and no one waits for anyone.

even yesterday's chop was yummy!

Just happened to see some chumball wad it up on Wall of Voodoo!

Yes, whoring around through the pow, lost my buddies but there's one of them on the next ridge over.

YAY!
