Shouldn't that be "three" fav things?

Givi Crash Bar????

Hello

Is anyone able to give me an opinion on Givi Crash bars????
I have a DL650A and am about to invest in crash bars.
I would ultimately prefer AltRider but are a little expensive in OZ, so am leaning toward the Givi's.

I would be interested to hear what experiences those who have them can tell me...

Cheers

Mike

I had them on my Vee, and after about a year and a half, I wnet to remove them to do some maintenance, and found the welds broke. I contacted Givi, and they had anothr set on the way, same day, even though they were out of warranty. Ended up going with Pat walsh for integrated skid plate. I have seen several sets on wrecked bikes, that held up well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a set, especially considering teh customer service.

The welds would break at the forward mounting point, but Givi fixed this design flaw a few years ago. Kappa makes identical crash bars as Givi, and they are a little bit cheaper than Givi's (at least here in Croatia).

Mine were actually the "new improved" versions.

I had a set of Givi bars on my KLR and the "ears" vibrated like tuning forks at certain RPM's. Some people have complained that the Givi's on the Strom's behave similarly. I was also not impressed with the paint quality on the bars. They had several small chips in the powdercoating when I got them. Also, they're not stainless steel so if you crash and the powdercoat comes off they'll start rusting badly.

For all these reasons I went with the Altrider bars on my Wee. They don't have any projections to vibrate, they're thicker tubes (1" vs 3/4"), and they're stainless steel. I'm very happy with the Altrider bars- worth the extra $$ IMHO.

I bought a set with cracked welds for cheap, the fixed the welds, added some bracing and down-tubes, and tied them into a 'Wheedle-Fab' skidplate...
