Yes it is. It gives greater clearence in case you run a knob tire like the TKC. When I installed mine I thought it was a little flimsy but it's taken a beating and has held up fine.

Lower Handguard Extensions

I stole an idea from a dude on Stromtrooper (?) who extended his handguards using a thermoformable ABS sheet. I took straight .040" ABS sheet stock, cut a strip approx. 3" wide and wrapped around the lower side using the lower facet of the stock guard, trimmed, taped in place, more trimming so that they wouldn't contatct the tank at full lock, and they work GREAT! Keeps the big cold air blast from coming up behind the stock guard and freezing my fingertips, and not as bulky as the Hippo Hands that I've used before. The flash pictures bring the (cheezy-looking) tape more visible, but it's more subtle/blended in real life. I'll look to either rivet or bolt them in place for permanance.

19 degrees earlier this week, 30-mile highway cruise in to work, completely comfortable!

Thanks for the idea. Going to see what I can make with all this scrap acrylic I have laying around the shop. I made a gas can holder to attach to the passenger foot peg mount last year. Did a 3000 mile trip with no issues.

Nice work, Jbird!

Assuming that the gas can will be filled most of the time as an emergency reserve. You might want to see if you can figure out a better location to carry it. Having that much weight up that high might create a problem. Just a suggestion.

PS I'm envious of your garage as well.
