might get more lookers and responses if you go back and edit your post..go to the ADVANCED EDIT feature and edit your title to PLATING A DIRTBIKE IN LA..that way them boys down in the swamps would be attracted..yeah I know it's baiting them, but thats what they know!

i've plated two bikes in OKLAHOMA, but none in LA. Process may be similar.
both times i used a vehicle BUILD SHEET provided by the DMV (online) and basically documented the vin number and engine number from the "Donor Vehicle" as well as reciepts for body work, etc etc etc... fill it all out, and they send you back a NEW VIN and a piece of paper. STAMP the new vin next to the old one, and carry the piece of paper in the bike at all times. It documents the change and new title. No idea if LA works the same... poke around your local DMV website for build sheet forms.

I don't know if this will help you either but it may give you some ideas to follow..here is a thread I started when I was trying to plate my dirt bike here in Arkansas...understand tho that I did not have a title, all I had was a bill of sale..I did buy the baja street kit for it and and so far, it's still working for me..anyway read thru the thread and perhaps you will find something that may help ya..good luck

if you buy a bike brand new and the dealership is cool, you can get them to mark the title as street title when they fill out the paperwork.
I had them do that with my brand new 2007 KTM 450 SMR. A factory race bike with NO street legal ANYTHING. Not even electric start. They'll do the same for any brand. This wont work in several states like California though.
