Rode

I rode my first trials last Sunday.

Third place trophy in Intermediate class. Not too bad I guess.
The bike was a '99 2.9 I bought this February.
I think it has a lot of tired parts....

I don't like to ride bikes that are 'OK'. So I found a nice '07 Evo 3 270 in the flea market.

I rode it tonight. It's not 'OK'.

It's GREAT!

I'm really looking forward to the next event!

Aidan took his MX bike for a spin, so he can get ready to ride his TY 80.

It was last Sunday in Mauston. It was a toss up between the Leaf River DS and the trials for me. It's too bad about Leaf River being cancelled on both dates this spring. I know a lot of folks were looking forward to it.
I'm going to choose the trials events this summer over trail riding. (The next event is the same weekend as Thielman.) It's new to me and interesting. I can work on subtle bike control skills at 3 instead of 30. I'll get plenty of time on the woods missiles this year too, I'm sure.

Mike, thanks. Watching other people ride helped me learn what I needed to work on, that I wasn't getting on my own. I think I'll stick with I class this year. If I continue to improve at my current rate, I should be able to move up to Advanced next year. I see that the opportunity for pain increases quite a bit with Expert. No one was riding the Champ lines at that event, but I did watch Patrick Smage ride up a cliff that would have made a mountain goat jealous.

These bikes are so much fun! Should have bought one years ago....

You should have never left Iowa J, we've been riding all year. Well, at least I have.

Yea, trials is pretty safe at the lower levels, but the risk ramps up as you get to the upper classes. I can compete in the expert class if I've been practicing, but I always seem to get hurt. I think I'm just gonna stick with Advanced class. It's still challenging to get a low score and the risk factor is more manageable for me.

There is a D17 trials in Pearl City, IL on May 1st. It's near where the DS was supposed to be.

Today I washed about 48 pounds of mud off of my Scorpa from Saturday's trial in Ijamsville, MD. The weather alternated between bad and really bad, culminating in riding the last loop in pouring rain. And it was fun!

Got to meet another ADVrider who rides trials; ran into a buddy who was checking; met a new buddy from a local interweb forum; learned a lot about riding in the mud; signed up for the next line up and didn't get hurt and left with a 2nd place trophy. Never mind that there were only 3 in my class. All in all, it was a great day.
