Well I finally bribed the mechanic with the promise of a ride tomorrow. Should be a balmy 45F with snow and rain.

The pics.

The shock is new too. You might notice that something fell off during this operation.

Had to add something to keep the shock clean.

I put the key in to start it up and take it for a test drive, and the battery is dead. Guess I'll get to try it out tomorrow.

missing canister and chainguard at least. man, parts coming off faster than you put the new ones on. you sure my mechanic didn't fly out there to lend a hand?

that must be a hydraulic preload ohlins. is there an upgrade on the shock bolt that you do at the same time?

sunny and 70 here, but i'm stuck changing an axle on one of my 10 ton tag trailers, bah. seal on the oil bath hub failed on the interstate and destroyed the spindle. first ever failure for me on one of those dexters, but they fabbed a complete new custom axle assembly from the ID tag and had it to me LTL in 5 days, pretty cool.

Chain gaurd is back on, the charcol canister is not. This morning its 39, w/ 50 mph wind and snow blowing. The interstate is closed.

Dexter seems to be a pretty good outfit. Hopefully your running soon.

You need to get out more, I was up to Bozeman and back 2 weeks ago, and Great Falls and back this week. (Not sure quite what i am saying about myself, snow 3 of the 4 days.... probably should have taken the cage....)

What do you mean "riding already"? I never quit riding.

It's funny - having grown up in Maryland, I get such a kick out of native Californians whinging and whining about "oooh, the weather is sooo cold". I just look at them and say "you have no idea how cushy the weather is here."

It would take Iceman Paul Mondor to ride the roads last saturday. 1/2" of ice on the county road I tried to take the buick on. Finally put the chains on and headed back home. It was the 50 mph wind that really made it trecherous.

Glad your axle is on and your out making money JD.

there are guys that ride 12 months out here, not me. the roads might be in decent shape, but there's chloride residue on the roads and it gets all over the bike and your gear. nasty and hard to wash off, it will produce surface rust overnight.

Having grown up in Maryland and moved to Vermont nearly 14 years ago, you have no idea how cushy the weather is in Maryland.

Except for the summer heat/humidity -- I can definitely do without that.

so am i, especially since i found out from the Versys owner's thread that i'm way off track on this rat build if i want an "adventure" bike that will run with the F800. apparently my $1500 out of pocket cost for the rat was a little light and i should have done something like this if i wanted a real bike....

Adventure Bike Set Up Costs:

New Versys: $5200.
Traxxion AK-20 Mod: $1,400.
Elka custom shock: $1,400.
Woodys Wheels: $1,900.
Filter Pods: $30.00
Kildala Rad Guard and brackets: $220.
Mud Flap: $60.
SW-Motech Skid Plate: $240.00
SW-Motech Quick release Pelican mounts: $245.
Pelican cases: $480.
Hepco Becker Engine Guard: $190.
Givi wind screen: $140.
Cycra Probend hand guards: $135.
Rox rubber mounted 2" Fat Bar risers $140.
Pro Taper Fat bar: $70.
Custom seat: $300.
BRP chain guide $100.
New DID X-ring Chain: $180.
Raised Fender mount: $20.

Total Mods: $7,250.
Cost of Bike: $5,200.
Complete Adventure Bike: $12,250.
(plus personal labor)

my $1500 would have bought the fork rebuild, or the Elka...that's a start.

...at least the rat bike builders all have the cop motor, makes me feel a little better. sniffle, sniffle.
