hey mike, ya better get that bike shined up, might have people banging on the door wanting to look at it after the holidays.

if PM count is an indicator, there's a lot of interest in your lower ride height version. then there's the gal yesterday who is rounding up all the parts to build tonymorr's version of the rat ninja for herself. hope she comes back with a photo.

so i should be painting some parts, but i'm still waiting on some things to show up so i can shoot it all at once.

at least i'm painting something...touching up the paint on canada goose decoys.

show and tell at McD this spring, look forward to seeing you both.

i've had the parts bike in the shop for awhile now, and it's been a distraction. there was no opportunity to start it when i got it because of the damaged generator cover, so other than satisfying myself that it had compression, i didn't know 100% whether the damn thing would run.

i caught a break from holiday obligations and mounted a new cover and fixed some other stuff the PO damaged. some people are just plain dumb when it comes time to turn a wrench.

new oil and filter, charged the battery, added seafoam, and hit the starter. cranked for two seconds, then lit right up. nothing unusual, runs great. what a relief. let it idle for an hour, then changed oil again.

frame painted hotrod black in acrylic enamel. i hate painting frames. all those tubes and brackets, hard to get real good coverage and i usually find a spot or two where i could have gotten a better blush. looks pretty good from ten feet...and has twice the amount of paint that the factory put on there.

now i can start bolting this thing together.

i've used a Versys shock on the Ninja 650R builds previously where the Ninja frame was used, and that shock actually works pretty well. this Showa shock uses a 16kg/mm spring, is about an inch longer than the 650R shock, and has damping adjustment.

Ninja shock left, Versys shock right. you would never confuse the two.

i'm looking at some shock options, but until i settle on something, i'll mount the Versys shock. a full custom shock for this build is not in the budget, so the new shock has to be better than the Versys and cheap.

so, got the frame, got the swingarm, got a shock to tie things together and now it looks like this...new style Ninja swingarm on the Versys frame.

i needed to clearance the front lip of the lower shock mount about 2mm to ease the bolt through. they changed the shape of the mount just enough to make a tight fit. no problem.

now i need a front suspension and some wheels and i'll have a roller.
