I've been wanting to see more of the Argus Range and today will do just fine for that.

I'm not even going to try to find a cabin until Monday. I figure I'll try one of the harder trails since I just had a rest day.

I'm going to try to get to the Defense Mine for the night.

Ok, I have oficially found the hardest trail in the region. I have to stop and unstack a bunch of rocks that kept rolling around.

I had already launched up a dry fall that was taller than my front tire, this isn't looking good.

I couldn't gain any momentum after the last ledge where I had to stop. I tried running next to the bike and pushing...this is as far as I could get.

This is what I had just made it up.

I don't want to get all sweaty with darkness fast approaching, remember it's really cold. I scrape out a spot for the tent.

I set up camp and had it in the back of my mind that I'd make another try once the bike was unloaded.

Yeah uhm, no thanks. This trail is a ride it or die trying type of thing with this bike.

I was near a little mine.

I crack open a beer and get a fire going.

Good night to Thanksgiving...I'm thankful that I'm here and that my master link has stayed together for almost a week since it spit my spare master clip.

Not a bad spot to spend the night.

Loaded up and time to go.

These are the nearby Lookout City Mines.

I like these little plants that store water.

Take your time and be careful up here, there was a collapsed adit under the road.

Three guys hiked up from the valley below. One of the guys mapped the tunnels here back in the 1970's and gave me some info about the mines. Chinese labor was used here in a time before safety standards and about 2500 miners died here.

I headed back down to the main road and saw Fubars on his DRZ. We were kind of going the same direction for awhile, but he's a little sportier than I am since he doesn't have camping gear with him.

I went into Trona and got fuel for the bike, coffee and a snack for me. New plaque since I'd been here.

Then to the south to go see the Pinnacles.

There was a huge group of dirtbikes that had ridden up from the Spangler Hills and a few of them were hitting some sweet jumps.

This isn't an OHV area, you can come here without a plate...staying on the roads is a must. The BLM ranger came along and lit me up, I shut the bike off as he got out of his Jeep. I told him I can't hear a thing because I have earplugs in, but I'm not with any of these 200 dirtbikers and I have stayed on the road the whole time...he took one look at my loaded bike and got back in his Jeep to go after the other guys.

I was going to ride the whoops down to Ridgecrest, but there is just too much dirtbike traffic and I'm begging for a bad accident if I try to ride with these people. I bugged out and took pavement into town. I'm going to go look for a new front tire and a master link clip. I went to the Honda shop...can I please have this?

I scored my favorite front tire, Dunlop MX-51.

Close to 60,000 miles on these dirt gloves.

I don't like bulky winter gloves for riding trails and these are a pretty good compromise glove.

I'm going to find a cheap motel for the night and do some work on the bike.

A fresh bird packed on a bike. How cool is that. Did you pack it frozen?

Awesome stuff, thanks! Very good inspiration during the cold winter months (10F in Bozeman right now).

My buddy Tom and I went up to Look Out City on our 950s... It wasn't easy! That's one of my favorite places to go now. The way the roads are shaped into the mountain with all the stone work it gives the feel of somewhere exotic, like the Himalayas. Great veiw as well. It's funny, Panamint Valley has some really cool places, but most people don't realize it and just burn through it as fast as they can to get to Goeler, South Park, etc...

Can't wait for more!

This has been the perfect thing to counter this slow week at work. I must admit to burning a few hours here.

Enough, I dreamed of days gone by when I slept on the hot desert floor. Alone in my tent. Alone in my camp.

Man, I miss the desert.

Thanks for bring a little back for me.

Yeah, it had a very exotic feel to it with the hand built roads and trails.

I've got a Baja Bandit to finish up that is on CR500 suspension, that will fill in for some light dirt duty. Then I've been gathering parts for a two stroke chopper idea that I want to do. My main priority for 2011 is to put the finishing touches on my 1959 Willys Wagon and take it to Death Valley with my family...I already have the time off approved for the trip.

Thanks AngryScot, it's a lot of work. Any chance we can get thread raters out of the shadows like in a public poll, so we can return the favor?

Just kidding.

Thanks to all for reading, whether from the shadows or right out front, we all make this place what it is.

I found a motel and the owner insisted I take the bike in the room with me, he doesn't want my trip ruined with a stolen motorcycle. I dropped my stuff in the room and went on a grocery run, then back to work on the bike.

Under normal conditions I would run this tire longer, but with all the ice and snow I want every advantage I can get.

Fresh tire and rim strip.

Time for a walk.

I got a few master kits since the bike keeps spitting them. The main guy at the Honda shop had heard of me...that was funny..anyways, he said that it is probably spitting the clip because the new chain is wider than the last one and is rubbing the lower guide.

There isn't much I can do about the guide right now.

This will help.

Time for a snack.

I sorted thru everything I have with me, cleaning and organizing. I'm going to have to move some weight up higher because the Dirtbagz are coming apart again.

Brought the bike in for the night.

I did some sink laundry and watched TV.

I was really craving carbs and made a microwave lasagna.

Slurp.

I took some time to catch up on my journal.

Near here for tomorrow night.

Soul Survivor~Angels and Airwaves

I am a ghost

This is a dream

There's something here

It calls to me

I sense it 'cuz
It's always there

So silent as I sit and stare

There is a light when we're asleep

We buried doors with locks and keys
The feelings of our hopes and fears

The sounds explode within our ears

Like stars at night

Falling fast asleep

Like a risen sun
Waiting patiently

You can feel it
'Cuz it's always there

Growing stronger as we stare and stare

Like love and lies
Shaken violently

Down to the core
To foster grief

It has a way to keep me down
I gotta say it wears me out

So sadly, soul survivor
Lost and lonely in open water

Help I'm losin'
Help I'm fallin'
Life is silent

Earth is callin'
Every reason
Every night time
Every day starts and
Ends in sunlight,

but I'm not ok, this viscious cycle
Something's broken
It seems unnatural
The shapes are wondrous

but, Loosely woven
The sounds are deafening
and Time is frozen

So, sadly soul survivors
Lost and lonely in open water
