The Californian biker, 7th in the 2010 edition, was finally able to retrieve his belongings yesterday at the end of the morning; not ideal preparation when aiming for a place on the podium. “It’s all the more annoying since the equipment arrived in Argentina two weeks ago,” he says, “and that the person her who was supposed to collect it didn’t do it…” Street will thus be able to fit his new Yamaha with new tyres for its presentation on the podium today.

While we are waiting...
Here's a pic of Jacob Smith in the 2010 Australian Condo 750. The guy is a real pilot, with some luck a top 20 finish is doable, even in his first outing. He has some speed, just needs a bucket load of luck first time out. Just hope the Honda does not grenade on him.

Yep Jacob is absolutely fast and has some roadbook rally experience. I think he has a bright future in Rally Raid but I would be cautious in regard to be expecting very high results in the Dakar.

It's his first FIM rally outing, a very new and different enviroment to the Safari.

It's racing the world top riders, and I hope enthousiasm and the urge to prove his quickness doesnt get in the way of finishing.

Wishing the GHR team all the best and hoping for some good results.

why would the GHR Honda explode. Are you aware of their record for rally miles without failure???? Clearly not.

Common guys, let's not put the mocca on him(or is that mocha??/)
The Honda will be fine if Hoff has control.(already have coms probs)
Jonah may be finding out that Sth Americans play at racing the same as soccer-let's leave his gear right where it is to put some pressure on. You're not supposed to come into this race and be a front runner straight-up.
I can see a time when Dakar becomes the new Moto des nations/mmw

yes all true, but also be aware that Dakar eats engines at a much much higher rate than even Safari and the to date track record it shows that it eats the CRF motors more than the others

I think Jacob Smith will do very well even if it's only his 1st Dakar. No one would aim for a podium finish there 1st time at Dakar but (from memory) didn't he win the safari 1st time out.

Clearly I am, but you have an opinion different to mine. Live with it.

Ditto, I have followed the Condo kid and brother Todd for more than a few years now.
These boys have what it takes to get there, with everything going their way, its just that its not Mt Kosciusko its Everest and then some.

Earthquake near Santiago del Estero

There was just (40 minutes ago) a 6.9 earthquake in the area where Monday's ride is routed through.

1) I really hope no one was hurt.

2) Wonder how this will effect the routing (ie the scouts might find some terrain has changed). How many roadbook changes will there be that day? Yeesh.
