Apparently he ran into an intersection, crashed into another car and injured a non-competitor pretty seriously.

The crash was between Ignacio's car and a Renault Clio. The one driving was his copilot (Rafael Prohens), as Ignacio is flying today from Santiago to BA.

The other driver had a broken collarbone and some minor concusions.

The news is that the damage to Casale's car is undetermined, and there is no information whether it will pass screwteneering. The other driver allready left the hospital.

Not sure why any ADV'rs would want him to make it to BA.

So please don't put me in your group of folks who don't want someone to make to BA.
agree - it will be terrific to see Jonah win but it will be the sweetest win if it is against competitors who in their top form.

Yeah, it was the sandblast alright. Jonah had a really good time racing with Conger. He finished second to Bill Conger, and just ahead of James Embro (JJE) and me in 4th for the overall.

I'm pretty sure I overheard him say to his wife "If I can beat Flanny, then I can win the Dakar"...

Team F5, here is the link for Chile's largest newspaper... they have a web dedicated to cover the Dakar. Maybe there is one detail in the whole race that appears there first.http://www.emol.com/especiales/2011/...akar/index.asp

That is an excellent source of Dakar info. Wish my Spanish was better. (referring to the newspaper in prior post)

Tina Meier on her new Sherco:

Christina Meier: ďItís holiday time!Ē

ďItís a super bike. David (Casteu) showed last year that he could win stages with this machine. As far as Iím concernedĒ it should help me to simply finish the rally. Before, I raced on a Yamaha 450cc, so itís the same engine power. This time itís an ignition model, whereas before it had a carburettor, which should make it simpler for the high altitude stages. Whatís more, itís easier to handle and light thanks to the carbon. Iím delighted to be covering all this distance on the Dakar on this bike. I havenít had too many opportunities to try out the 450cc model. I went to Southern France to test it once, but since I live in Northern Germany, itís not simple. That said, I have managed to get some endurance races on a Sherco 300cc under my belt. Iíll just have to get used to the bike during the rally. But after a year of work, on the Dakar itís holiday time!Ē
