Another Nullabor story: when returning from the Ulysses AGM in Albany WA, I stopped in a roadside carpark, discovering too late that recent rain had turned the clay into a skating rink. Down went the Sporty! I called my wife on the UHF radio and said "Can you come back and help me lift the bike?". Immediately, there was a response from a passing road train driver on the highway. "Anyone got a copy on that bike down in the carpark?"
Two recently retired paramedics in their Winnabagos copied the call so I had three to help me lift the brute!

Gotta have roadside friends to pick up a heavy bike!
Glad your ok mate, it's always great to hear of people ready and willing to help.
The three times I have been down on the road, twice people stopped to help, the third time 3 cars just drove on past while I was lying down next to the bike.

While I don't own a Sporty, I've ridden them a few times and I definitely see one in my future as they have got to be the most fun bike I have ever ridden.

Love my '99:

there's something about a Sportster ...
Mine does everything I need it to, and it does better offroad than it should. It's no DR, but I haven't gotten it stuck yet. Great bike to carry my wife around on too.

Oh man! You've gotta give that bad boy some white grips, just to top it all off! What a cool bike......

Both those last two ironheads give me a boner. Nice bikes.

Sidecar, that sporty is beautiful. Love the color scheme. I didn't realize that it has a right side gear shift. What year did they change?

Very nice! I have a photo of me when I was a kid standing next to one just like it in Gatlinburg, TN about 1970. It was parked at the motel where we were staying and I thought it was about the coolest thing ever.

You know, the white seat and pegs look pretty dated, but when you sit on a "modern" bike with a black seat after it's been sitting in the hot June sun all day, you realize maybe that was a pretty good idea.

Been meaning to throw a picture up. Heres the ironhead I picked up a few weeks ago. Runs good so far. Needs some little stuff cleaned up, find a correct tank, and get a new seat. Not a bad start though. 1977 xlh, electric start removed so its kick only now.

Very nice '69! A classic for sure. Here's a pic of one like yours fresh from the showroom floor - still has the plastic on the seat...
