My '06 has that hinge, and I too have been struggling to figure out how these things can vanish. If the top clips come loose, the thing just swings down - getting it off the bottom hinge is tricky, I'm not concerned with loosing mine.

I drilled a hole on the top of the side covers and zipped tied it to the frame. Easy, cheap, effective.

One of the first things I do with any bike is remove the sidecovers and replace them with leather stash or tool pouches that are big enough and of the right shape to cover the exposed area. I think the pouches are more practical, look better and don't get lost.

Peter, have you done that to a sportster?

Sounds interesting.
One HUGE gripe I have about my sportster is the complete lack of on bike storage.
I mean COME ON.

Got a pic or two?

Lick's Solo Bag works for me. I got it cheap through a group buy on XLF.

And it so works on your Sporty. Love the look of the whole bike, and esp that bag with the seat, but I think I'd be in pain sitting on that after a short ride. How do you find you hold up? And did you fab it, or is it an aftermarket piece?

I made the seat. It's "okay..." Have been considering tackling a fiberglass pan for more support this summer...
