I don't think it was ever offered. It's been re-painted. Love the color though!

Looks like a bit of a mongrel. Is that an 885 that's had a respray or a 955 with a heart transplant?

Now you got me wondering?! I have no clue what motor is in this bike! I need your help. There is an alternator on the LHS of the bike. Yes an alternator. I thought it was weird when I bought it, but hell, I just though it was a Triumph thing like 3 cylinders... The oil cooler is mounted on the RHS of the bike instead of centered under the radiator. I just noticed after you pointed it out that my motor looks completely different than the rest of the girlies. What is going on!?!?

Could there have been different 955i motors put in during the 01-06 run of the girlie? I found this pic from triumphrat.net and it looks to be the same motor in my bike. as well in a 01-06 girlie. The alternator over the countershaft sprocket gives it away.

very early 01's used that style engine case (see below pic). not sure about the alternator though , thought the 955's ALL had stators on the crankshaft .

whats on it for rear sprocket ? 885I's used a 48 and the955I's use a 46 tooth as std,
Icould be wrong about this , but IIRC the very very early 01's were still 885's the 955's didn't start until after the beginning of the 01's production start . Check the build date on the steering neck tag (if it's still there).

So I did a good amount of web browsing and I finally found my answer! Thanks for the info about checking the build date. The title claims the bike is a 2001, but the actual build date on the steering neck shows 07/00 so the bike is actually a 2000! I googled and wiki'd everything I could about the 2000 year run. looks as if 1999-2000 was a very limited run of the girlie. I found this quote: "It was replaced in 1999 by a heavily revised model known as the T709 using a fuel injected version of the 885 cc engine - which albeit a more road orientated bike, sold well... In 2001 the T709 model was replaced with the model T709EN, 955 cc engine and fuel injected, commonly known as the Triumph Tiger 955i." The title also stated original color of this bike was yellow, and in 2001 only colors available were green and black. The yellow was only released in 2000. Also found a thread that talks about it here on ADV. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=419829 : "I believe the 2000 is special because I think the 99-00 is the first fuel injected triple and is still an 885 but not the T 3 block The tiger stripes went vertical and the entire bike changed from my old 95. I think they went to the 955 in 01 Anyway, don't know if it makes the bike "rare" or not but I think it was only a 2 year run Good luck!" and: "+1 its the 885. A very good engine by the way. good on MPG, nice and reliable. Keep looking. I took 9 months. Found a 1999 with 18K miles and all the bags in mint condition. $3500US. they are out there if you are patient.. "

So I guess I have a 2000! I really don't know what the name of the bike is... Just a Triumph Tiger? Either way I am happy with my bike! It may not have the same displacement of the 2001 955i, but it's unique, and it's me!

Good news then. I've learnt something today. Thanks. I've always thought they went straight from 885cc Girlie looking like the 98s to the 955i like my 2002. So it's an official hybrid.

Yes, lots of people, retailers are confused about this. When looking for parts, many places list a 1998 Tiger as "885i", which of course, it's not. The 885i is 1999 and 2000. I remember when they announced the 1999 Tiger, it was just a bit after I bought my 98. I compared the two long and hard, and in the end decided I liked the old style better. But, the new Tiger was quite a good design, so you have nothing to be sorry about (except maybe the 955i decals). Triumph can be darn proud of their 885cc engines.
