Giant Loop Moto Luggage/ MOD Parts in Canada
We've been distributing Giant Loop in Canada since Jan. 2010 and we're very impressed with it. It's certainly game changing!
One of our goals from the very beginning has been to have a local dealer that riders can go to and actually look at the product, feel the quality, how it fits and really see what it's all about...for both MOD and Giant Loop. So on that note I thought I'd post our Dealer list. We carry a good amount of stock so we are able to get most of the products to dealers quickly too. We're working on getting as many areas covered as we can. If you have a local dealer that may be interested certainly have them contact us. Thanks! I'll add to it as it grows too. So, as a Canadian distributor, what are you doing to ensure that your dealers can be competitive with cross border shopping? I have discussed this issue with a number of dealers (including some on your list) and they always complain that they can't compete because their wholesale cost is higher than retail cost in the USA.
None of us want to cross border shop, but when an Arai helmet or Sidi boots cost nearly double the US price in Canada, what choice do we have?

-Selling product in Canada competitively and actually making product in Canada that is competitive with anything made anywhere else in the world. Our guideline with Giant Loop to allow Canadian dealers to be competitive with US pricing was to be within 10% (keeping in mind where the exchange rate is). Factoring in the extra charge that credit card co's charge on doing the exchange between USD and CAD is usually around 1.5% and then the shipping costs I think this keeps it very competitive. What do you guys think? ![]() Next is our ever changing Dollar. Since we are a small Distributor, that gives us advantages (and disadvantages). We are able to react to currency fluctuations much quicker than others. When out dollar went up to 1.05 this year, as would be expected we dropped our prices (and the pricing to the dealers). Now of course we can't change our pricing every week but we try to keep an eye on the trend and re-act accordingly. From August to October our dollar dropped 9c. However we didn't change our prices knowing there would be a little recovery around the corner. Right now our pricing has stayed the same as it was even though our dollar is back up a bit but still below par. You're ahead right now. Sometimes we will be a little ahead and sometimes we'll lose a bit. Dealer pricing can vary of course but if you take the cc charges and shipping charges into account it should be very close. Shipping to a dealer usually is less expensive per unit as they typically are ordering more than a single customer would. We should also be able to get it to you quicker. You will then also have the support of the dealer and/or us. If there is a problem we are here to help the dealer and you. As far as going to the US to pick things up, well hopefully the pricing will be good enough for you to not have to do that. If you are able to save yourself the time and expense of going to the US/buying from the US, and able to go to your local dealer that you like to shop at, then we're all doing well. You have a local dealer when you need them, they have you as a customer, and we have them and you as a happy customer. If you don't have a local dealer or prefer to deal with us directly, you can. We have been distributing Giant Loop for two years now so we know it well. Again we are very open to opinions on this because we want to make it work (and so far is has been going well). We're not getting rich here, just doing something we love. Any and all feedback welcome! Thanks! Dave

Thanks for the response. 10% higher is in line with my expectations and I would happily pay slightly more to support a local business. I have a lot of sympathy for a small business owner who is going out of business because they can't compete because they are getting strangled by the Parts Canada's of the world. Glad to hear that you recognize this as an issue.

Great, that's good news. I'm glad to hear we're on the right track.
Thanks for the reply on that too. Moto Overland will be at the Vancouver Moto Show again this year. Working on some new stuff and Giant Loop has some great new products coming out for 2012 too! We need some pics on here: ![]() Giant Loop Coyote and Coyote Dry Bag on an EXC. ![]() GL's Diablo Tank Bag and MoJavi Saddlebag on a WR250 R and the bigger Fandango Tank Bag on the F8 GS and 12 GS behind it. ![]() GL's Great Basin, Great Basin Dry Bag and Fandango Tank Bag (with all the MOD parts, V2 Skid Plate, Tool Box, Top Rack, Side Stand Foot and some proto parts too) on the F8 GS. The GL Dry Bags came out later this past summer and are designed to compliment the Coyote and Great Basin of course. The last points keep 'em stable and secure. You can also run the Coyote Dry Bag with the Great Basin Saddebag if you don't need quite as much room. They haven't made it onto our website yet but everything GL makes we try to keep in stock (and as of yesterday it's all in stock). More to come! Dave

US distribution?
Hey guys,
We first saw you're product on one of our customer's bikes down here in San Diego. Looked great, but more importantly he loved it! We'd be interested in discussing distribution in the US if that was an option. PM Sent
