Yes, once you are in there, it is tempting to just keep going :)

Hi Everybody, I'm new to this forum, I’m currently rebuilding a 1981 Honda XR 500 and was looking around for period correct aftermarket options and found this forum and photos during some internet research. I'm really enjoying reading about the knowledge, experiences and advice. Can anybody tell me anything about the White Brothers swing arm & Ohlins shock seen in some of the photo's (Eric318 I think) I would be very grateful if anybody could help answer some of my questions?
Does the swing arm give you better handling?
Is it lighter than the original steal swing arm?
They say they are 1-1.5 inches (38/39mm) longer than the original – is this correct?
Are they still being made or is anybody reproducing them?
Is the Ohlins shock longer than the standard rear shock?

Thanks.

Hey welcome.

You will have a hard time finding somebody with extensive first hand experience of this set up...

Does the swing arm give you better handling?

That is the idea

Is it lighter than the original steal swing arm?
Oh yes!

They say they are 1-1.5 inches (38/39mm) longer than the original – is this correct?
Yes (who is they?)

Are they still being made or is anybody reproducing them?
No

Is the Ohlins shock longer than the standard rear shock?
No

You will find more info here if you have the patience to go through it all and put up with a little French ;)

Also here: www.xr500only.com

Lets us know how you progress.

Cheers,

E
