My wife bought me the PMA kit for my birthday. I have never ever looked back. It has never left me stranded an never failed to charge at exactly 13.8 v. I am fully in love with it.

Can't get a better woman than that!
How much is involved in doing the conversion?, does it still have the correct timing marks on it ?
The original system works well but I'm over doing all maintenance on the brushes, etc.
Cheers

Couldn't afford a 'GSA', so now it's an 'XSA' "I didn't do it! & whoever said I did, is a liar!"

You have to scribe timing marks into it, but it is keyed so it will stay. The hardest portion of the install was pulling the rotor in the first place- other than that, it was a ten minute process. It was beautiful.

I have read a lot of good comments about the PMA kit from Hughs handbuilt . I plan to install one once I run out of spares. I guess I have been lucky, Out of 4 XS's the lateest one is the only one I have ever had any charging problems with.

That's a great source. I got mine from Joe Wiseguy and he was great to deal with. Pretty sure it's the exact same stuff.

I was looking at the units from MikesXS or 650Central, which I deal with all the time [being over the big pond!]
Can't say I've had any problems with products from either source, service has been quick & efficient,
First time for me having rotor problems, bought the '81 Special 6 yrs ago & did a complete rebuild, but didn't replace the rotor, can't complain - 50,000Kms later before this happend & god only knows how many Kms it had on it when I bought it!
Main electrical replacements have been;-
Solid-state Regulator/Rectifier
Glass Matt Battery
Anyway, good to hear that the PMA units work well, it will next item to be bought
Cheers

I have a 77 XS650 with the stock charging system, and if it ever goes I'll stick with the same stuff. I also have a 73 Triumph tiger with a PMA system on it. To me a PMA system is NOT progress, I'll take the stock system on the XS any day.

Why, if you don't mind me asking? Mines cut weight, made starts easier, and provided stronger charging with fewer components.

Lived in Tasmania in '79-'80, one state in Australia where it snows regular & down to sea level!, Huon Valley - southern Tassy, on my '76 XS650C that I had at the time

Touring around out back of Glen Huon with Paul & Lee Kier on their '76 Bonnie, lots of dirt roads

A shot while moving @ 100kph, with an old SLR camera no less!
Cheers
