My son has been around bikes since he was born and always loved to saddle-up whenever mine were stationary in the garage. Here he sits on my R80G/S (at less than 3yo) with his grandfather looking on.

...and again

Once we moved to Colorado he got big enough to go on adventures with me two-up (now around 6yo)

Today he's 10 and sports his own wheels (just like I started nearly 40 years ago). He's never without an ear-to-ear grin when he rides, just like his old man.

I am not sure what size you two are but I'm guessing if someone starts to get lippy with your dad all you have to do is stand up and then they sit down and shut up. I know I would.
