summer 2011

From web

The last week of his summer break from school. He wanted to do a "long ride" before summer ended. We did 60 miles of single track mountain riding that day. He did great, the little bugger is getting way too fast.
I guess, all the hours of practice in the back yard paid off.

Grandpa Ken and Grand Son Drew

He is showing signs of a true "gear-head". I can't wait.

Rocky Mountain National Park

My son lives with his Mom a few miles away. He comes over at least
once a week. They left when he was two, so now at nine, every other
weekend with Dad is getting boring. You know the story...

He doesn't have much interest in motorcycles. Living in NJ, there's
no legal place for a kid to ride, so no reason to push it. We do spend
time riding the local mtb trails.

I realized a few years ago if he was ever going to see the rest of the
world, it was up to me. So last winter I started to plan a trip from NJ
to Colorado. Fly to Denver, rent an rv and spend a week in
Rocky Mountain National Park. This past July it all came together.

It was the best week of my life. We had lots of time to sit, talk,
joke around and explore. A nine year old can teach you alot if you just
take the time to listen.

I hope this sparks an idea in someones head. Take your kid on a trip,
he's only going to be young once. Your not getting any younger.

The first time he every built a fire from scratch with no help.
He's a suburbia kid, so this is a big big deal.

I had just gotten home from a 3 day ride and taken off my very sweaty helmet and gloves when my son, Jackson, picked up the helmet and put it on, then slid his little hands into the gloves. He's 2 1/2 years old and loves riding around our condo parking lot seated between me and the tank. He's getting his own motorcycle next summer. I literally dream of the day he and I can take off together on motorcycle trips to the far beyond. God, I love that little guy.

My son and his Grampa (my Dad) back in 2004.

My Dad is a big reason that my son, my brother and I ride today. Thanks Pops.

Is this on the North rim? At a campsite? Do you have coordinates for it or the name of the campsite/area?
