I've had 2 VT500E 's but the side panels are very different. One of my Ascot panels fell of and got run over by a car, so i'd love to be able to copy one. BTW they are both good but very different bikes to ride and live with.

Geez...I wish I had found this forum sooner.....(actually, 'found' it in pursuit of a BMW Xcountry)...I would have offered my '83 VT500 Ascot to the OP. It is pretty close to a 'museum' piece---67 or 6800 miles, all orig--owned it since '84---rarely ride it anymore. As soon as I get sorted out at this forum I'll post it up for sale....maybe put on CL as well. Cool place here(esp since the Ascot riders forum died out.)

Help me decide

Currently rebuilding a Honda VT500FT Ascot and cannot decide which of the two original colours to go for or try something different. Heres the choices first black (currently rust & black)

Or Candy

Or some thing like this

What do you think

There's also a third original color- the 1983 dark colored VT500FT's are actually a very dark blue.

I like the looks and reputation of these VT500 Ascots. Looks like a cool bike to add to my "Bikes to collect" list. I haven't officially started collecting bikes yet.....but I've officially started my "List".

The Yamaha Fazer 700 looks like a cool bike too.

What are some other cool older bikes to consider? And why? (maybe I should start this a s a new thread, probably there already is one. This forum is huge.)

Found one in a barn a week ago. Black. 84. 9000 miles. Last ran April of 08. Gas tank was full of green stinky fuel and the petcock was on. Both tires dry rotted. Both fork seals leaking. Battery had froze and was leaking. Front wheel was locked up. Guy wanted $1200.

I passed. Bought another deer rifle instead.

That sounds like a $500 "project" bike, maybe.

Lots of good looking bikes here. My first bike was the ascots ugly brother the vt500c. I put super bike bars on it, but I always envied the ascot. That shaft drive was bullet proof.

Old thread, but I need it.

I own a VT 500 ascot, but I can't find this thread listed under "Road Warriors". I had to find it in a google image search. And, now I just book marked the page to keep it handy. How come?
Us Ascot owners need to continue this thread. I also own a Hawk gt and an 01 SV.

Honda VT 500 Ascot

1) my first road bike

2) the road bike I had the most fun on

3) everyone that comes in contact or owns these bikes - just loves them
it's a shame Honda never saw fit to keep developing this particular
model for the US market
( it was a great beginner bike that long time riders also loved )

4) would have loved to see Honda take the styling concept
( V-Twin , dirt track look , )
and give it some hot-rod performance and handling

I too want/have to change the front forks due to pitting. Any ideas?

This outfit can supply new fork tubes: http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/

BTW- there's also another Ascot thread here in Road Warriors:
