Isuzu has a small commercial truck with a small diesel that is supposedly bomb-proof, but do they sell it stateside?

it would be fun to take a small modern diesel and stuff it into a 'classic' FJ

Isuzu NPR has a turbo diesel hooked up to an auto trans. A good friend of mine is stuffing one into a 46 Studebaker pickup.

Well, I took the 96 in to the dealer today and they said that it didn FAIL the frame rust inspection. They said that Toyota will be in contact with me , and they also said that every truck that they inspected that failed the inspection was bought back by Toyota . Maybe I can get me that extended cab I been wantin.

Picked up a 88' toyota hilux on tuesday. It's the 22r-e engine. It's pretty fun to drive in. Now it's time to work on upgrades. Interior, wheels, engine reliability, all the typical stuff. I found Toyotanation.com and there's a fair amount of information other, but not much in relation to the Hilux.

Any word on these trucks?

Any reason to have it other then having it? I got auto cause I've been driving manual since I've been driving. My new job is constant stop and go traffic once I get on base. I got really tired of shifting. It's a fun truck.

I've had this one since about 2003. '88 4x4 Short Bed 22R-E Manual. When it came time for me to want something more comfortable, I just couldn't let it go. Been street parking it since then, but it isn't going anywhere for a while. I still take it on the long drive home (back to NorCal) every now and then and get it dirty. The pic above was after hitting one of my favorite spots down by the river.

2. If he can realise anywhere near his asking price, power to him. It won't be from me.

3. Filthy interior. Not the way to impress a customer. Asking premium for a used vehicle, wouldn't you at least detail it first?

4. History's too weird for me.

For that kind of $$ I could find a 4cyl 5spd Ford Ranger half as old with half the mileage. They're a good truck and they're made in the USA.

Count me as not willing to pay the Toyota cult premium.

So, for similar $$ as the above '98 Tacoma I ended up with an '08 Mazda 2300 (Built alongside the Ford Ranger in St. Paul MN with the Ford 2.3 litre motor) 5-spd with 80k kms (50k miles) and two year's remaining warranty. So far it's returning 28mpgUS (34mpg Imperial) in winter weather with a fibreglass cap. Probably do even better in summer with the cap removed.

If it's anywhere near reliable as my old Ranger I'll be happy for many kms to come.

I've had my '88 for over 19 years now. Only major repair is that I blew a head gasket at about 185,000 miles. Have about 200,000 on it now. It's a 22RE with 5 speed manual...

BeaterToyota, super cool that you have such a long history with the same truck. It has obviously served you very well and will likely continue to do so.
