I'm concern about the 'handful' issue as well. That's what makes me concerned about the Maico choice. I've gotten use to the XR 650 R power over the years. But, I don't know if bigger is better for the MX racing.

Handful as in not light if there are big jumps to land.

Really though I used the Sonic for trail riding and it was fine. One of the last times I was out on it my cousin was there on his XR650R and we traded.
The physical size of the bikes is pretty close. The Honda being a couple of decades newer was better suspended and braked. The power was more of a wash. Trail riding in the woods we have you're not really spending to much time WFO, not if you plan to live .

The C-A weighs about 275.

Oh, Flug are any of the bikes you post for sale in the OPs $1000 to$2000 budget?

I wouldn't really mind buying one of these 'exotic' open class dirt bikes. Trouble is...I couldn't afford one already restored. I'd have to find one in bad cosmetic shape that was 'complete' and in almost decent (or make it so with little money) running shape. I would want to ride it in that condition and take time restoring it.

That seems like a tough order to fill. Although, it took me six months to find a very nice TY 80 for my son to ride. I got really lucky, but it took time...
